iPhone 3GS Battery Issue (iOS 5)

So after upgrading to iOS 5, I have discovered an issue with the battery on my iPhone 3GS. Anywhere between a 25%-35% charge as indicated by the battery indicator, my iPhone will just randomly shut off, and it won't power back up unless I plug it into an outlet and let it charge. The fact that my phone keeps turning off between a certain charge percentage leads me to believe that the battery indicator is not properly calibrated. Is there anyway to calibrate the iPhone 3GS battery? Also is anyone else expereiceing this problem?

Guys, Good news after quite a while now. Well, I again changed the battery for the second time and its been two days and no shutdown seen till now. Well, I am obviosely monitoring it by doing different things and so far so good.

Earlier, the problem use to come while enabling Wi-Fi, enabling a game, Safari (Important one). Tried all of these several times and still enabled and it looks normal. Battery sustenance seem to be pretty neat.

I will keep you all updated if anything changes though. Keeping my fingers crossed that my problem if fixed!!!

This problem is so familiar, only mine started 1,5 years ago. Suddenly, whithout knowing why, my iPhone just drained in 3 hours. Went to the store and they sent it out for repair. After 5 weeks I got my phone back and it worked again. After 2 weeks of using, again the same problem. Went again to the store, got a "new" iPhone and was able to use for a couple of months. Than again, same problem. Went again to the store, this time really mad and they told me that the problem was probably caused by my computer (I have a MacBook Pro). So I made them test it and guess what, everything was fine. Nobody would believe me that my phone just drained and could give no explanation.

I also updated my iPhone to ios5 and I've had no problems what so ever, until yesterday. I'm hoping that it's due to everything said above, because I'll go mad if it's again the same as the past times.

recently, I got my phone replaced through best buy. I have the warrenty through them so there was no problem in getting the new phone. However, they didn't believe me when I told them that my phone would just shut off randomly with normal use. It was getting so bad that sometimes it would even shut off right after I charged it over night. I did delete almost all of my apps and wouldn't run anything in the back ground, shut off 3G, turned off where I would recieve emails all the time...completely removed all of my emails. It was just so bad. I had told them that if they go on the net..with an app or anything... that within 2 minutes my phone would shut off.. and I just charged it before I went to best buy... and it was at 95%... then my phone did it... and he was like OH I have never heard of this problem before... and I was like... well... it is pretty common... but he was being kinda short with me.. like I did it to my phone.. so after trying to get my phone back on for the next 20-25 minutes, he finally was okay with the fact that my phone was being stupid haha. But anyways... I got my new 3GS phone... WITH the new software already on it >.<... haven't had a problem YET. I know it will start within the next couple months. They said that if I keep sending it in with the same problems, that they will upgrade me for free to a 4.

Hi guys,

I'm a T-mobile user that recently got my hands on my girlfriend's freshly unlocked iPhone 3gs... I was excited to say the least. I plugged it into iTunes, restored it and updated it to the newest iOS without a problem. Got it started up and thought everything was great, until it just shut off after an hour or so of use.

I've done everything I could hardware-wise; replaced the battery, disassembled and reassembled the thing more time than I care to count, and still the same problem. Once I got it to work for 30 hours straight when I first got the new battery, now it's back to shuttting down after only a short while of use. I'm really hoping that an update to the software in the furture will fix this problem. I'm certainly glad I didn't pay for an unlocked 3gs, this is dumb!!

Guess I'm stuck with my droid, and maybe that's not such a bad thing.

I agree with soccerislife8. The best way to preserve the battery life is to turn off features when actually not in use. Like 3GS, Wi-Fi etc. Its been 45 days since I changed the battery and its working well. I use the above features only when I actually need it. My battery life is pretty consistent and the performance has improved as well. Now that Apple has released the 5.1.1, I am wondering whether to apply now or wait for few reviews and updates.

Any suggestion by anyone on this is welcome!!
