iCloud deleted my documents. How do I get them back

PS...was not able to get any of my old files back. Been using it for new files and seems to be working. We'll see. I plan on getting an IPAD and I hope the problem doesn't occur when there is another IOS device using the same icloud account for pages and numbers.

This really brings up a question of faith. Using icloud with pages/numbers for the iphone/ipad really seems like putting them into a black hole and just having faith that they will be there. Unfortunately, this experience shakes my faith that icloud is a reliable online storage system. I think it will be a long time until I get confident with it since it seems to dependent on the whole Apple ID system.

They contact me too, but I had no fix from them to install. However, since this appears to be a common issue for everyone, your solution should work across the board. Please keep us posted!

I had similar issues. Luckily I had the original files some place else. The way I fixed it was to remove iCloud and delete everything icloud related from all my iDevices. Then on my Mac, also did the same - which was to log out of iCloud. Then I logged into iCloud on each of my devices in turn. iCloud seems to retain all my iWorks files now.

This happened to me too today. I started up KeyNote on my iPad v1p0, and it asked for the upgrade.

So I did and then I accepted the iCloud upgrade.

It was succesful in transferring over my mobile me account to iCloud. So I started a new Keynote and worked on it for a few hours.

I stopped and closed out of the app on my iPad. The jiggle delete, then I came back t it an hour later. It took a few more seconds to start keynote, and my documents flashed for about a second then they were gone. I tried iCloud.com and they were not there either.

Please someone tell me that they are still around...somehwere.

The documents should still be there, in a folder called MobileDocuments.delete in your library folder.

I think the problem is with Lion 10.7.2 and the iCloud preferences: when I turned on my devices this morning, they were still all in sync. It was only after I started my iMac (anc onsequently triggered iCloud syncing) that they disappeared again. This seems to point at a script in OSX Lion directing iCloud to erase all files upon starting. Let's hope Apple is working on this.

Please help me understand all this. I have read all of the iCloud online support documents and a number of threads like this one, and what is dawning on me, either correctly or incorrectly, is that in order to use iCloud a computer must be part of the loop. And yet I distinctly remember Steve Jobs, in his presentation earlier this year, state that with ios5 we could do everything independent from a computer. In other words, must my MacBook Pro be part of the iCloud process, or can I just tap into the Cloud with my ipad, iphone and,ipod touch and just sync calendars, reminders, etc. between the three of them?

I do not have Lion installed, just Snow Leopard, so obviously I would need to upgrade to Lion if the answer is that a computer must be part of the iCloud process. Assuming, of course, that I choose to use iCloud. Given the mess it's in right now, I'm not that eager, but I would like to make an informed decision.

I suggest that you wait with both the Lion upgrade and the connection to iCloud until these issues have been resolved.

There were also some problems with the Lion upgrade, at least for me who had my computer crashing on several occasions every day, until I turned off the Time Machine feature.

It is possible that the latest fix to Lion managed that problem, but as I am already in trouble with the iCloud (having lost all documents on iWork), I have not turned on the Time Machine feature yet. One problem at a time.

But, if you make backups on everything, and do not need to use the iCloud for your income, and feel like living on the edge: don't let me stop you.

You don't need a computer to use iCloud. If you only have some iOS 5 devices you can use iCloud without ever owning a computer.

If you want to access iCloud from a computer you can always use the web http://www.icloud.com/ I have a first generation Intel iMac which can't be upgraded to Lion. On that iMac I check my calendar on the iCloud website now.

Only if you want to sync iCloud data into your Mac, e.g. use iCal and AddressBook to access your iCloud calendar and address book you'll need Lion.

Of course, at this time there seem to be some serios issues with iCloud deleting all your documents you have synced into iCloud, e.g. from iOS Pages or Numbers. Due to these problems you may want to wait until these issues have been resolved. And to restore those documents a Lion Mac which synced to the iCloud before is extremely useful.

But again: to sync a calendar between an iPhone and an iPad using iCloud you don't need any computer at all. And so far I think syncing calendars, address books works fine...

I don't think the problem is related with OS X Lion. I see my documents disappear on my iPad sometime during the day while my Mac is turned off all the time.

I think when Lion syncs it finds that the original Mobile Documents folder in iCloud has been deleted and thus moves the original folder to the .delete. folder before setting up an new empty folder. That's why you find the folder containing the last working sync there.

But whatever triggers the documents to be wiped is not caused by Lion. It is either on the iCloud servers or something which can happen on any device.

Today I have noticed that the time stamps on the documents won't change anymore. I have changed a Numbers document on my iPad. It shows it uploads the document, shows the correct timestamp "Today,...". However, a few minutes later suddendly it shows "Yesterday..." again. My changes are still in the document but the timestamp is wrong.

The document also won't get sync to other devices including www.icloud.com. On all other devices I only find the previous version of my document.

Seems to me as if things get worse...

I had same problem that documents were automatically deleted after temporarily syncing to 'iCloud'.

Yesterday, I tried to delete my iCloud account in all my iOS devices and MacBook, then added same iCloud account again.

After this turn off and on process, everything has been working well.

Yeh its def a bug - its affected me too - After learning that it had deleted my spreadsheets last night, I re-imported them in and from now on will download daily copies of them from my icloud.com/iwork account back to my Mac until its sorted.

So that's 2 issues with iCloud affecting me - documents disappearing and push email partially working on iPhone 4S... We just gotta sit it out and wait for the fix..

I tried exactly the same, everything worked for the day and the morning after all files had disappeared again. The bug persists.

I am new to this thread. I have been experiencing the same issue with iCloud. It seems like a trend that every morning my iCloud data is gone from the day before. Its not the biggest deal because I have the data backed up on my laptop, but it is making me lose trust in iCloud. Hopefully this will be caught by Apple and fixed promptly. I would like to migrate my documents to iCloud from DropBox but will not do so if this is not fixed!

I followed the steps outlines and moved the files from the deleted folder to Mobile.Documents. The files reappeared in my iCloud account, but Pages didn't recognize them. It said it could only open files created in iWork '09. These were, or in iWork for iOS.
