iCloud .me email not pushing to iOS 5 devices

First off, if this is a repeat post please direct me to the existing conversation. As I could not find one I wanted to know if anyone is having an issue with iCloud email being pushed to iOS 5 devices? It seems like the push feature only works when the email app is running in the background and even then it runs very slow. Does anyone know if this is a glitch within iOS5, a server issue, settings issue, etc?

I have already tried deleting the account and re-adding it and various other "fixes" but to no avail. I remember the horrendous rollout of MobileMe and I have a feeling that this is simply more of the same.

So maybe I should just set up my iCloud account to forward to my gmail account…which seems such a waste. I have to believe that MobileMe and then iCloud's mail systems were not designed by Apple, but are massive fraudulent sites designed by Apple's enemies to convince everyone that they don't know how to create such a service. The company that invented the iTunes experience surely can run an e-mail server. So I think iCloud is actually run by some shadowy underworld bent on ruining Apple.

I know...not a helpful message...sorry you can't deduct points, but I don't think I have any points anyway!

You guys should really try what rerunvp suggested a few threads back -- creating another Apple ID. That fixed the problem for my .me (.mac) email account. You keep you existing email address and all, but for some odd reason, creating that new Apple ID under this faulty iCloud, pushes the old MobileMe email just like before the transfer. It really works!

Again, that's exactly what I do. Sometimes I use the me.com account when creating accounts and stuff. I use all the iCloud features, except mail. Have you seen how Gmail will now automatically filter your messages into Notifications, Bulk, and Forums labels? It's fantastic. The Gmail rules system is second to none. This kills me though because I trust Apple with my data more than I trust Google.

I've had the same issues with iOS5 from day one. It started with my iPhone 4, and the same thing continued once I upgraded to the 4S. What "rerunvp" mentions has worked for me for the last 24 hours. Everything is being pushed to my phone perfectly now. Fingers crossed that it doesn't quit, but so far, so good. If you haven't tried this method yet, give it a shot. Nothing to lose and so far it looks like it will fix the issue! Thanks for the post, rerun.

Glad to hear its working for you tonyr1976. It's worked for me since I did it. I don't know what was the explanation for it, but my iPhone 4S and iPad 2 are receiving "pushed" emails with no problem. So you're welcome; I just can't take the credit as I read that on a different post, and like you, I just gave it a shot and it's been flawless!

This hack isn't going to cut it for people who are serious about their messaging. Anyone with a technology background will ignore this "fix" because it highlights that the iCloud messaging system is broken. An action - creating the second account - has a result that is completely unpredictable. What else is happening that no one has noticed yet?

What do you have?

(1) A system that appears to push a single folder - the inbox - when you jump through hoops.

(2) Unread message counts that don't update across devices leaving you to constantly wonder, are those new messages or has my device just not updated?

(3) There are reports of people losing email using iCloud. Definitely not acceptable for anyone using this for anything serious. I had messages go missing back with MobileMe and I don't recall their Engineering team ever giving me a final answer on what happened.

If people are cool with a "fix" that makes absolutely no sense, go for it. I'll be waiting for an actual system fix.

So far, what rerunvp has said, has been working for me also. I went in and setup a new Apple ID then removed the old one. Then followed the directions and I'm back to my old email address. It missed the first 2-3 emails like 10 minutes after I did the reconfig, but I restarted again, and it's been working as advertised so far. I will need it to work like this for a few weeks, before I call it fixed.

Thanks for the help rerunvp
