iCloud .me email not pushing to iOS 5 devices

First off, if this is a repeat post please direct me to the existing conversation. As I could not find one I wanted to know if anyone is having an issue with iCloud email being pushed to iOS 5 devices? It seems like the push feature only works when the email app is running in the background and even then it runs very slow. Does anyone know if this is a glitch within iOS5, a server issue, settings issue, etc?

I have already tried deleting the account and re-adding it and various other "fixes" but to no avail. I remember the horrendous rollout of MobileMe and I have a feeling that this is simply more of the same.

You clearly don't understand what "Push" means regarding e-mail. It means precisely that as mail arrives on the server it is immediately pushed out to the device whether or not Mail is running. The iOS detects the incoming mail because of some background process and posts to your notifications screen that mail has arrived.

The "Push" feature was in demand exactly for that reason: you don't have to have Mail running to know you have mail.

I did a support chat with Apple about the problems with iCloud mail. The support agent was dropping hints that she deals with a lot of mail problems. After an hour of tinkering she found a support article that says it's perfectly normal for unread counts to not update across devices. She seemed as surprised as me that this is by design.

So push is intermittent - I'm not messing around with creating new accounts - this should just work as is without cludgy hacks. And unread counts will not update across devices by design.

It's shocking that after the disaster of MobileMe, iCloud mail is no better.

This is not good. The article is not exactly accurate either. I have rules moving messages to folders, but just opening mail does not reveal new messages that are routed to folders. I have to go to the lower register of the mail application, click iCloud, then click the specific folder, which then sync's and finally I see the message.

This defeats the purpose of folders and push. I want to know immediately, on the go, when I get a work-related e-mail. I also want those e-mails segregated automatically. As it is, I might have an e-mail from a colleague or superior that sits in the folder half a day while I'm out on other work tasks, and I wouldn''t know without periodically opening Mail, going to iCloud>WorkFolder and letting it sync.

I still think this is some kind of faulty interaction between synchronisation and push. But what do I know, I'm just a customer.

I know! It blows my mind that Google has had push mail working for what.. . .a couple of years now on iOS devices and Apple can't get it right? Gmail does exactly what you're saying. For example, on my iPhone I only have the inbox pushed. On my iPad I have my inbox and a selection of subfolders pushed.

I would like to consolidate everything under iCloud, but functional mail is a requirement nowadays.
