iCloud .me email not pushing to iOS 5 devices

First off, if this is a repeat post please direct me to the existing conversation. As I could not find one I wanted to know if anyone is having an issue with iCloud email being pushed to iOS 5 devices? It seems like the push feature only works when the email app is running in the background and even then it runs very slow. Does anyone know if this is a glitch within iOS5, a server issue, settings issue, etc?

I have already tried deleting the account and re-adding it and various other "fixes" but to no avail. I remember the horrendous rollout of MobileMe and I have a feeling that this is simply more of the same.

I've tried a full restore, set up as new phone twice now, with and without adding iCloud. My yahoo mail stopped pushing with both attempts. I've tried deleting accounts, adding them, resetting phone, turning s/mime on/off, every combination of things I could possibly think of, and even still yahoo mail stops pushing eventually. Sometimes it works for several hours, sometimes less than an hour. I always have to delete and re-add my email account to kick start it again. This is going to sound really ridiculous, but this is consuming my life! My daughter has my old 3G, and I can set up my yahoo email on her phone, and my mail pushes fine. I've set her yahoo email on my phone, and all the email accounts on my phone eventually stop pushing, usually within a few hours. But I did make it about 20 hours over the weekend where I had no problems. But now I'm back I maybe an hour of pushing before it stops.

This issue was happening on my 3gs over the past 2 yrs, so not sure that would solve it. I think Apple just needs to update their email system so that it works

Same here. MobileMe never worked right and after back and forth with their Engineering team I gave up. I gave iCloud a chance but clearly it's the same mail service, just branded. A quick Google search reveals other MobileMe users reporting the same problem with it launched.

You do have to admit though, it's funny to watch all these people tinkering with settings, doing restores, adding and removing accounts trying to fix a problem that's been around for years.

@ Jamie

I don't fully agree, I had MobileMe from launch and at first it was a bit hit and miss for a month or two, but after that it was faultless untill iCloud and OS 5.0 -5.01.

I now find providing I shut down mail each time I receive email and don't leaving it running I get mail pushed.

I added a gmail account also just to see if what others said that by adding another account it seems to push.

So for me closing down mail each time seems to work better, I wonder if 5.02 will rectify it, due out this week so say.

Although I feel this will now be as good as it gets now everyone is on the iCloud untill next year when the free time will be over and a charge introduced. :-(

I have tried most of the fixes available in this thread and others. Push worked for me since yesterday and all of a sudden, today, it stopped working. Whether the mail.app is opened or closed.

It ***** as I just made the switch to iCloud mail to get rid of my gmail address in an effort to leave google products behind, other than search but truth be told, Apple doesn't seem like a solid alternative at the moment.

Ok. I got new iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s running ios501 and I can't get hotmail to push. I have honestly tried everything EVERYTHING except fresh restore since I don't want to lose my data.

Anyways, my @me.com account works just fine and pushes.

The very tranche thing is that my homail account will push but only after I close th email app!!!! Once I close the mal app, notifications will work and the mail app red badges will automatically update!!!! For example I double click the home button and then close mail app and only then my mail app in the home screen will automatically update the new email and notifications will work.

I hope I don't jinx myself posting this, but after 3-4 calls to Apple about this, they finally referred my issue to their engineering department to have a closer look why emails weren't pushing. They just referred it yesterday, so I don't think the department has worked on my request yet.

In other posts, I read about creating another iCloud account, and that solved the problem. Since creating an account is free, I gave it a try. And IT WORKED!!! Twenty-four hours later, it is still working. Here's what I did:

- on the iPhone 4S, I created a NEW free iCloud account

- I deleted my original MobileMe (now iCloud) account off the iPhone

- I made sure I logged on iCloud under my new iCloud account

- check under Setting --> Mail, Calendar... that the new iCloud account is active

- added original account to the Mail, Calendar... control panel. The setting, obviously now list both iCloud email accounts.

I did a series of tests sending emails to both iCloud accounts, and the pushed worked for both.

Once everything was pushing, I deleted the new iCloud account off the Mail, Calendar... setting.

I made sure I logged on as the original account under the Settings --> iCloud; and that the Mail, Calendar... for the original account is still listed under the Mail, Calendar...

And now, emails are pushed just for the original email account, and I get notification banners and badges when emails gets pushed.

Good luck all!

Creating a new iCloud account just simply creates a new email account and Apple ID. The original account you maintain and remains active. Apple cannot and will not delete iCloud accounts.

So really, you will have two email accounts -- the old and the new.

Don't change anything with your existing MobileMe account. The only change really is when you moved from MobileMe to iCloud, which what most people did -- and got us all in this mess.

So to get a new iCloud account got to Settings (on the iPhone or iPad) -- Mail, Contacts, Calendar -- Add Account -- iCloud -- Get a Free Apple ID (at the bottom of the screen) -- which will take you to New Account screen.

Again, once you have established this new account, go delete the old account from your iDevice. You can delete the data off your iPhone (as long as you have the data backed up on iCloud or iTunes -- I prefer iCloud because I get everything back right away once I re-added the old account back to my iDevices). Or you may keep it on there; you may just end up with duplicates.

Once the old mail account is deleted, go to Settings -- iCloud and log with your new iCloud/Apple ID.

Go back to Mail, Contacts, Calendars and log on with your new iCloud/Apple ID account. Don't worry about if this new account works or not (mine had a problem connecting to the server, so it kept failing retrieving the Welcome email from Apple).

Restart the iDevice (Home button and Power button), then go back to Mail, Contacts, Calendar to add the old account back.

If you have a laptop or a desktop, try sending yourself email to both new and old email accounts, to test. It may not work immediately, as it took some time for my iPad 2 to get pushed emails, but an hour or less later, it started working for it. I think my 4S took some time, too.

Once you get that pushed email, you may go ahead and delete the new account off the Mail, Contacts, Calendar.

Don't forget to log on to iCloud with the original account after you delete the new account off the mail settings.

Again, don't worry, your original email address will stay intact. This really worked for me and I only have my original MobileMe account on my iDevices -- the new account has been deleted off my devices.
