Most of my album artwork is missing after updating to iOS 5

I just updated my iPod Touch 4G to iOS 5 and now all my album artwork is missing. What should I do?

Is there a way to get back the album art in my iPod?

Can Apple fix this problem?

Try turning off "Sync Music", then sync your iPod. That will delete all the music from the iPod (and presumably its artwork). Then turn "Sync Music" back on and re-sync. That should put the music and artwork back on.

If that doesn't work, then you'll probably have to wipe the iPod and start over. I did that before trying the "Sync Music" trick and that seemed to have fixed it. I was missing about 80% of my artwork. I just synced a small playlist and it looked like all the artwork came back. I'm in the process of putting the rest of my music back on right now and will have a better idea how it went in an hour or so...

Have a similar situation; album art was all there (added the correct way in iTunes) and I Manually Sync my 4G Touch. After the iOS5 update, I ‘Dragged & Dropped’ one Smart-Playlist to the Touch and then lost 80% of the Album Art on the Touch. What really is upsetting, the Art is there. Dock the iPod and iTunes show’s the Art listed and within ‘Get Info’ for the iPod.

This need to STOP, more then 10 years of using iPod without this problem and in the last two months had to reload 3-times already since getting the 4G Touch; great loss of time with a 64G. Add a Warning! or something. Maybe it’s an issue with iTunes 10.5.0.142, OS-Win-7?

UPDATE: for this scenario, I think the Art got corrupted by older Art listed in iTunes. When I fixed the 1st occurrence of missing Art, I only fixed what was on the iPod to save time (only 30% bad) and then when I ‘Sync’ed’ a Playlist from iTunes, 80% of Art then got corrupted. There are trade-off’s to both Auto and Manual Syncing. Like I said; “a Warning! would be nice” OR how about “Asking”; “Do You Wish To Overwrite The Existing Art?” ⚠

Same situation with my IPad1. Tried resyncing, tried resetting. My podcast art appears on some albums, and the wrong album art appears on others. Resyncing an album fixes it, however even after a fix, if you view by artist in the music app, the art is missing on various artists, even though it is visible in album view. In this case resyncing does not always fix things.

I think an update is needed. Badly.

Me to, my iPhone 4 is working fantastic with iOS 5 but I realized it randomly deleted about 20 songs and 1/4 of my artwork is missing, even though in iTunes it displays it, meaning my computer still has it. I haven't tried resyncing out of fear of making it worse, but I'm incredibly ****** off. Battery life has also signifigantly decreased. Overall, not to pleased so far.

Yup, driving me mad! I use my Ipad2 for professional DJing but simply cant any more. It took me three days to re-organise all my music and albums and get all the artwork in. I made the MASSIVE mistake of clicking 'sync over wifi' in itunes and now half the album art is missing again. Every time I re-sync, different artwork appears and different artwork vanishes????

I have now wiped all my music and am re-syncing yet again to see if it works.

Does anyone from Apple exist and can explain what the heck is going on here as IOS 5 has rendered my device almost unusable for its main purpose. I have to say, I have gone from selling Ipads at all my gigs to telling everyone who comes up to have a look not to bother any more - its probably caused several hundreds of laughs already, not the kind of advert Apple wants I'm guessing????

I think I figured it out: Connect your ipad/iphone to your iTunes PC/MAC. In iTunes, click on the iPad/iPhone. On the "Summary" tab for your device (in iTunes), select "Sync with this iPad/iPhone over Wi-Fi". On your iPad/iphone go to "Settings", then "General". Toward the bottom you'll see "iTunes Wi-Fi Sync". Select it. Select the "Sync Now" option. It's the only option. iTunes should start syncing the missing album covers.

I'm doing this as I'm writing this. Good luck!

I had exactly the same problem after updating to IOS 5 but have just managed to fix it with the following steps.

1) Connect to PC and iTunes.

2) Select your device.

3) Select the 'music' tab

4) Remove the tick in the box next to 'Sync Music'

5) Apply the change

6) Retick the 'Sync Music' box

7) Sync your device.

It might take a bit of time if you've got lots of music in your library but its totally worth it to get your album covers back. Best of luck.
