If keeping the app floats your boat, then go right ahead. Nobody is forcing you delete it off your device, and if you're content with the way it is, then more power to you. I'm just glad you are not having an emotional breakdown like certain individuals, who are trying to impose their ideals onto others, without regard for their opinion.

I really don't understand why some people started attacking those with genuine concerns. This is a support forum, and this particular thread is about finding a way to delete the Newstand app (read the title if you still don't understand). Comments that are meant to attack others are absolutely unnecessary, and is what degrades this thread.

*A helpful little tip for those reading this thread: If you're fine with the way it is, and have no problems or concerns with it, then move on and enjoy life. Nobody is asking you to justify your reasons for being content, and certainly doesn't call for derogatory comments. The OP of this thread, like many others in the community, wants to find a way to delete the Newstand app. If you have found a method that helps with this issue, then please share with the rest of us. This is the reason why this thread was created in the first place, and others would greatly appreciate your help. If you have other opinions on this issue, there is a "create new thread" button where you are free to express your thoughts. Lets try to stay on point and keep this thread productive...by finding a way to delete the Newstand app.

Merry Xmas! 🙂

I've been shaking my head in disbelief at some of the responses in this thread -- primarily, Macaby's. The fact that the admin has left his/her replies intact is a disgrace to the community. I mean, you're essentially allowing this person (and those like him/her) to tarnish the Apple community and make it unapproachable to people -- never mind those who spent their hard-earned money on an otherwise fantastic product and are seeking help/advice.

"Prissy?" Seriously?

Allow me to clarify for folks like Macaby what they're perceiving -- for whatever unimaginable reason -- as being "prissy:" there's something called "user experience" and Apple takes tremendous pride in focusing on it. Now, there's an app (technically, a special folder, I know) on the iPad called "Newsstand" that many people would like to get rid of. Short of that, they would like to at least place it in a folder -- just like you can do with every other app on the iPad.

Unfortunately, for this ONE app, you can't even so much as place it in a folder (under normal circumstances). On a device running an OS that's so focused on UX, the inability to be able to choose what to do with this ONE app is, quite frankly, terrible UX.

Okay, fine; I can accept that there are default apps that can't be removed for whatever reason. I just stick them all in a folder called "Default Apps" and I'm content. That's good enough for me. But Newsstand? Nope! I have to resort to some tricky fingering to move it into one. Again, terrible UX -- not to mention, an inconvenience to the end-user, and for what? For Apple to attempt to make sales after they've just sold the device itself for hundreds of dollars (thus, contributing to the BILLIONS in pure profit Apple has seen)? Even if someone purchases a used iPad, the amount made on the initial sale more than made Apple a significant amount of money -- or, at least, enough to justify not having Newsstand forever live in my focal point, but I digress.

And for the record, having Newsstand be the eyesore that it is, isn't like having a back seat in your car that you don't sit in, Macaby. That's an intellectually-flawed analogy. Rather, it's more akin to having one useless, empty box sitting on your coffee table. It serves no purpose for you, yet you're severely limited with what you can do with it. Do you put it on a corner of the coffee table and hope it doesn't bug you? Do you set it beside the coffee table, where you'll still inevitably have to see it? Do you get tricky with the box, such that you fit it inside the drawer of your coffee table to the extent that it's out-of-sight, out-of-mind? Why have to even pick from those when it's an empty box that I could just throw away, or at least place into the same special location that I'm able to put all the other boxes I have to keep but find useless?

Yes, it's annoying like that, Macaby.

Oh, and the next time you want to tell people to worry more about feeding the world than whatever else is concerning them, why don't you hold yourself to the same standard the next time you're aggravated by a "feature?" After reading through your replies in this thread -- never mind your replies that come up via a quick search -- I'd say you've done more than your fair share of anything but curing the world of hunger. Stop trying to belittle people and treat them like they're below some golden standard that you don't even hold yourself to. It's that type of intellectual dishonesty that is a complete disservice to the otherwise helpful and thoughtful responses in this thread and elsewhere in the community -- let alone anywhere else on the Internet where you pass your holier-than-thou judgment.

"Prissy." Pleeease...

Thank you for that reasoned summary, though I fear it will fall on deaf ears.

Because of abusive and unhelpful folks like Macaby and Philly_Phan, I now avoid the Apple "support" forum and get my assistance from more civilized sources. I comfort myself knowing that those posters have to live with their pathological personalities, which - sadly - they cannot return or replace with another product. 😀

The most annoying thing about this issue is how easily solvable it is. All Apple has to do is allow people to hide it via the restriction options in Settings. And yes, I know this is a user forum, not a complaint forum. I already complained to Apple. I'm just saying it here too.

As for people's attitude on this thread, all I can say is it's sad.

There is no good reason for the user to not be able to hide unwanted icons/apps/folders. So any argument against that is just nonsensical. Doesn't matter if it's not a big deal. In fact, because it's not a big deal makes arguing against people like me who want to hide this icon all the more silly.

All one has to do is say "The Newsstand cannot currently be hiden or deleted, but hopefully Apple will change this in the future." Insulting us and showing such disrespect, for no good cause, is uncalled for.
