Don't get me wrong, I definitely agree with you that bringing out concern and complaints on the forums isn't going to do much good in changing the overall picture, as Apple doesn't check the forums. However, Apple does not respond to most issues that users are having with their devices, or their concerns for that matter, which is why people are voicing their opinions on here. I'll explain more below...

The only time where we have seen Apple respond to complaints was when it was in a full-blown scale, i.e. iPhone 4 antennagate issue; iOS 5 battery issue, etc... Any other problems that users reported to Apple, and this is by the hundreds if not thousands, were simply ignored as it won't drop their stock exchange value. These miniscule concerns/complaints were not nearly large enough to be taken up by the media, and so Apple simply ignored them and continued on with their business, yet they were still a problem for people who paid a large sum of money to buy a product of their choosing.

Other than this, there are numerous problems with their products, which they still presently have yet to address. Think of the sound issue on the Macbook/Pros issue, that many people are having when they upgraded to Lion. Apple has yet to be address that, even though many threads have been created by users just like in here. The only good solution that came out of it was a user-created script that was inserted into the binary codes of the system OS, something Apple should have done and solved themselves...

Although their products are superb and aesthetically pleasing, their customer support is questionable. Consumers like me and many others on this forum don't appreciate the fact that Apple is content once they have taken our money, and could care less about customer support. It might just be my opinion, but I have personally witnessed over 15 different occasions where I ran into perfectly reasonable problems while using their products, and having X amount of people send feedback to them was a major waste of everyone's time. Most, if not all of the problems were never fixed/addressed, and the users are left to find a third-party solution...

Giving consumers a choice to do what they please is critical in todays democratic society. Having being restricted from removing useless items for the benefit of advertising and gaining more profit, is what makes consumers come into these forums and complain. If this app was made similarly to iBooks, where one can delete it off their device if they have no use for it, then the problem will be solved and both camps will be happy. However, this is not the case, as it is a source of revenue for Apple.

If Apple decides to make consumers unable to remove system-related apps, then fine. Most people need to use the phone, contacts, music, etc... anyway. However I hardly believe that the newstand app is system-related...unless everyone in this world needs to read their subscriptions on their iDevices. It is because people find it useless that they come here looking to delete it. I don't see people coming here to complain about not having the option to remove the phone or music app... People have the option to "hide" apps such as stocks, weather, clock, etc... However, Apple decided to make the newstand app an all important app that everyone needs/wants, so they refused to allow users to hide it alongside the other apps in a folder. The only solution?....do a quick trick to create a folder and insert it in there, and repeat when syncing large files or accidentally opening it. Hardly necessary for something a large amount of people don't use...

One last thing...a support forum is where people come to when they have problems with a product. These problems INCLUDE trying to remove something that the consumer has no need for but can't, hence the reason why they come here and share their issues/concerns. Solutions such as "live with it or sell it" are hardly good responses for someone looking to get technical support, and only does one thing....*hint, starts with T and lives under a bridge* Good day...

This is a user-to-user forum. What other solution is possible from those that have the power to change nothing, nada, zip, zilch? Would you prefer incessant complaints?

By the way, I don't particularly like Newsstand and I never use it. Same with Game Center and a few other permanently installed apps. I moved them to the last page, where I never go. End of problem.

Dec 23, 2011 8:03 AM in response to Philly_Phan

You could have chosen to put your thoughts in different wording. If that is indeed how you feel, you could have just simply said "I moved them to the last page" or "I agree with you". This is so much better than "live with it or sell it", don't you think? If you truly feel like you do not wish to add to the list of complaints, not responding in general is always an option...

There is no need for flaming when we are all trying to seek help and support others in the same situation. The way you worded your previous statement did more harm than it did good, to others anyway... What seems like simple thoughts to you could be misinterpreted as an attack to others.

The problem with putting in the last page is that it is still visible. We can simply hide the other apps such as Game Center, stocks, etc... in a folder, but with this you can't, which is the biggest drawback. The solution is just a temporary one, and other users may have concern for it even more than us. This is why people are getting frustrated. In the end, Apple would rather have us fight each other to oblivion and just sit back in the sidelines....

I don't disagree with you. I get frustrated as well with having Newsstand constantly crammed down my throat, and it looks like I'll have to refolderize it every time the iOS updates. It annoys me to have gamecenter and stocks and imessage and other apps cluttering up my device and taking up precious memory.

I resent that Apple, who touts themselves as so user friendly actually micromanages things. I know that the main reason I'm tied to having to use iTunes is so they can collect usage data. I know Newsstand is forced upon us so they can go to publishers and tell them 'millions of devices ready to download your magazines, software all installed, all they need to do is buy your magazine' so APple can collect their commission of all sales. I know it's a marketing ploy.

But honestly, what can a person do? Sure, you can get angry, but that doesn't solve anything, especially getting angry here when we're just fellow users like you having to deal with the same things. For the amount of money I spent on my iPad I could have gotten a comperable device with an andriod OS, but after navigating - or I should say TRYING to navigate the 'wild wild west' of open source full of deceptive apps and zero quality control, I chose to accept that to have this device, I'd have to tolerate a bit of micromanaging.

And if someting bugs me, I either learn to live with it or try and find a way around it, like tucking an 'ignore me' folder on the last page of my iPad and iPod touch where I cram all the useless apps they saddle me with.

I'm not a fanboi, i'm not slavish loyal to PC or Apple...both have their strengths and weaknesses and uses. But I also know that any fix that comes officially from Apple has to be tested and approved and that takes time, while user to user fixes can go faster because they just have to test it on themselves.

I do think that newsstand may eventually join the ranks of iBooks in being a voluntary addition to a device...but it won't be for a while, because Apple is, in my opinion, trying to launch themselves as competition to nook and kindle with subs to magazines and papers, and if they're going to sell access to that to publishers, they need numbers....And i'm sure what they tell the publishers is 'millions of devices with the software on them' not 'but only this percentage of users actually use the app'

It is what it is, and short of jailbreaking your device, you can't delete it. You can file your complaint with Apple, you can either continue to use the product or you can get rid of it and find another.

WIth all due respect to everyone, folks that come in there yelling and screaming and cursing...might as well call up the TV weather man when it rains whenyou don't want it to, because we have about that much control.

Someone wants to draw attention to issues with Newsstand, take it to social media. Make a twitter group, make a facebook group, gather numbers and work to draw attention to the issue...or just wait and see how it works out.

Sigh.... I'm done trying to mediate between these fanatics. Its a shame that some people still think that they are the center of this universe, and if its good for them...its good for everyone.

Reality? Please let me know when you come across it, then come back to the forums when you are mature. Otherwise, keep your self-centered ideals to yourself. This is a community, not your home... Jesus...

You're mediating and you call those that accept reality fanatics? Wow. That's amazing.

Goten11756 wrote:

None of the alleged fanatics held that position. They merely stated that it's reality. Live with it or move on.

Yes, reality. If you have a point that disputes that the Newsstand folder is really present and really can not be deleted, please post it rather than pretending that you're some sort of moderator.

Other problems were not specifcally addressed publicly by Apple, which is not the same as ignoring these issues.

Jesus Christ.... Philly_Phan...aka...complete troll. That's all I needed to bring out your true intentions into the limelight, and it seems to have worked perfectly.

If its too hard for you to digest reality and that you are not the sole user in the world using an iPad, then I have nothing to say to you, as words seem to have no effect. You seem too distracted by trying to save your own ego instead of being helpful to this community. If you feel too embarrassed that you have no valid points in your arguments, please stay quiet. This is a chat between grown-ups... I have already explained to you why some people are frustrated and why they are seeking technical help, and all I got was "live with it", "close your eyes".

Lets get this straight...Closing my eyes and ignoring the issue as you stated is real smart...genuis like. I should close my eyes and work my tablet, close my eyes when trying to read email, close my eyes when navigating through my folders... Pure genius, I'm suprised you are the President of the US since you are always correct, never wrong, and know whats best for the people!

"Live with it and move on"...hmmm...lets see. If the world just "lived with it and moved on"...we would not have landed a man in space; we would have never understood the biological processes of life; science would be considered magic...must I continue??? Your mentality is just sickening... You have no idea what it means to revisit problems and improve...

One last thing....this is a support forum, not a flaming camp for trolls. Also, this thread is about helping find a solution to the newstand issue, not your backyard for ranting. I'm almost guaranteed that your ego can't take this post, as you have been bashing back and forth between many users in this thread just to express "I Win!" If you can't take any criticism, then seriously keep quiet as you have nothing positive to offer to this community. All you contributed to this thread is "live with it" and flaming/bashing/trolling.

I really do hope moderators take a look at this forum and remove some of these ridiculous posts made by this troll. It really makes the forums look low end... On an end note...if you feel it is absolutely necessary to refute your standpoint all the way to the end, and reply with some selected quotes with some nonsense logic, then go right ahead... I'm not here to babysit anyone. I'm done trying explain the logic to you as it seems to be too difficult for you to comprehend. Go right ahead and be "in charge". I should have stopped feeding the troll long ago. Good day...

Yes, you are correct. They were not publicly addressed by Apple, but still...no solution came out even when sending feedback to them by the hundreds, which is why I said ignored. We provided them with information, but nothing came out in the end. I have been looking forward into seeing a fix in their updates for a while now, but am still rocking the no sound issue along with my buddies.

I just wish that Apple would help address these issues, which is why we all send diagnostic information to them for processing. It shouldn't be too hard, right? 🙂
