Iphone 3GS slow after update to iOS 5

After updated to iOS 5 my Iphone 3GS became generel slow.

Graphics and starting apps are slow. Some apps have now up to 10-15 seconds start time.

I thought closing the Iphone and restart clould help, but NO.

Yeah, like OS windows upstarts. 😁

Ok. processor not the same as new Iphone 4s.

I started to regret my update to iOS5.

So has everyone else, it will slowly lag once again, not to worry.. Working with AppleCare tier 2 for a solution... Upgrade to the 4s is not the answer... I would suggest everyone call AppleCare (800-694-7466or setup a callback at expresslane.apple.com) make your voice heard. As far as support is concerned this issue was due to an Apple upgrade and you should not be charged for support....

3GS users unite LOL

We've loved Apples wonderful products for so long, and the thought of going back to PC's, Droids, and viruses is so frightening, that we've become a bunch of pushovers at the mercy of Apple's marketing scheems. Let's just allow this iOS upgrade push us back into the stores to buy a "compatible" newer model phone and ensure them even more sales. It happened when iOS 3 went to iOS 4, and it's happening again as we move on to iOS 5.

Agreed, this sort of thing happens with all devices. Software is updated to the point that a device can't keep up; it's only natural. However, in this case, we're talking about customers halfway into a two year phone plan agreement being conned into "upgrading" their iOS only to be left in the dust for the remainder of their contract. For us to upgrade at mid agreement, it means paying full price.

In my case it was a bluetooth connectivity issue, after my 3gs' iOS 5 upgrade. This bluetooth issue has even occured with the 4 at the iOS 4 upgrade and once again with iOS5.

For God's sake, it's bluetooth and wi-fi - standard smartphone features! How can anyone develop such groundbreaking software and devices and not get THIS right? I don't buy it for a second that the genius developers at Apple are that burned out to screw up at such a blatantly stupid level.

If I am wrong Apple, if it is THAT complicated to maintain basic functions working after an iOS upgrade, the least you can do is post a bulletin, admitting, explaining, and offering an upcoming solution instead of leaving us all hanging; otherwise I will deal with PC's and viruses.

PC's get viruses. Apples get upgrades.

What's the difference when both can be contracted or avoided by the simple choice of what we click on.

lol, funny how you bad talk PC's,

because i went to a seminar last year (2011) hosted by Watchguard, they manage to hack into one of the user Mac in a few minute and took over the mouse and place files on the desktop etc...

Mac was not a target because the community is not large enough compare to Windows users (PC = Personal Computer. having an Mac Pro at home is still consider a personal computer, is it not?).

anyhow, due to the recent year Apple is more wide spread, expect to attacked with Spyware/adware/viruses in the coming year.

Apple don't allow to downgrade, which is not very flexible, once you accidently update and the speed of the device is not as optimal as you hope, you would prefer to downgrade, but apple dont' allow that. people who Jailbreak from the earlier version or atleast save their SHSH into their local computer can downgrade their phones despite they will jailbreak or not, this encourage people to either get a new phone, or jailbreak 😀

I just want to add my "me too!" to the issue. My iPhone 3GS was working perfectly fine for me with iOS 4.3.5. Apple recommended upgrading to iOS 5 and didn't warn me about potential performance issues or even about the fact that I can't go back to iOS 4. Apple was also kinda forcing me to upgrade 5 as MobileMe was discontinued and iCloud is not supported on iOS 4. Now my phone is a glorified paperweight: according to A+ Monitor it's constantly paginating and I get tons of Low Memory errors. This is totally unacceptable. And to add insult to injury there's a very easy fix for them to implement: just let me legally go back to iOS 4! (BTW, Apple is still signing iOS 4.1, so I could downgrade to an older firmware, even though there are potential issues with the newer baseband, but at least I can still use my phone).

I can't believe that, as a paying customer, I have to go to jailbreak websites to find out that I can't "legally" downgrade to an older firmware if the new one is making my phone useless.

Apple, wake up! I can live without iOS 5, but I can't work without my phone. Just let me go back to iOS 4. And no, I won't buy another iPhone if this the way you treat your longtime customers.

You're absolutely right. PC's are targeted simply because businesses big and small mostly run on windows. As a hacker, the numbers are in your favor by attacking windows users. As apple grows, it's "virus free" luster, which is a selling point, will fade. Then maybe they'll stop being such premodonnas behaving as if we should feel priviledged to be using their products.

iOS 5 killed my wonderful 3Gs!!! Since uploading the new software, my 3G connectivity hovers around 120 Kbps for downloads! So basically, unless I am near WiFi, I'm screwed! The keyboard struggles to keep up with my ridiculously slow typing skills and most of my Apps have been rendered useless without WiFi. So my iPhone is now an iPod!!!

I have been to the Apple Store in Rancho Cucamonga, CA where they assured me that my issues were unique and they even replaced my phone assuring me that this would fix the problems...NOPE...so when I went back they said my only reasonable course of action was to upgrade to the 4Gs!?! I refuse to be forced into upgrading when my phone was completely awesome prior to the stupid iOS 5 update!!!

As much as I love the products I've had thus far, I'm seriously considering switching to the Droid if I have to update! The idea of Apple giving existing customers the big middle finger when we want to stick with a phone that we are happy with is enough to make me want to puke! And no offense to the people working at the Apple Store but if all Apple is going to do about this issue is pass down a "Love it or leave it" attitude...I'm cool with leaving it!

PhotoCoach, rest assured that your problem with your iPhone 3GS and iOS5 is not unique. I have the same problems. Bluetooth and WiFi range is down to a few feet. Bluetooth is especially bad, 2 feet, if you are lucky. And like you, this all started after "upgrading" to iOS5. Apple has yet to acknowledge the issue.

I go to apple.com/feedback and continuously comment about the problem. No response yet but I will keep trying. Too bad that we lost Steve Jobs. If he was still around we could be writing him about issues.
