Iphone 3GS slow after update to iOS 5

After updated to iOS 5 my Iphone 3GS became generel slow.

Graphics and starting apps are slow. Some apps have now up to 10-15 seconds start time.

I thought closing the Iphone and restart clould help, but NO.

Yeah, like OS windows upstarts. 😁

Ok. processor not the same as new Iphone 4s.

I started to regret my update to iOS5.

the update was done over itunes. and it when restoring from back up cause an error message to apper - it was error message (-35) but after researching that it seems to be related to the location of songs😕 which baffeled me.

I will try disabling location settings when I get in tonight...thanks.

I disabled the icloud after i saw somebody suggesting that, but had no effect!

ok now tried all the usual, restoring it and resetting using a back up - no joy from this. it refreshing and would not slide to unlock.

now tried restoring and setting up as a new phone. but is now taking me through the setup wizard on ios 5, but wont let me enter the password for the apple id! and therefore cant progress any further.

losing my mind here! any ideas people?

why allow your phone to update to new software if its not compatible with the phone!!!

While I had the slow down and researched and uploaded the update, things got better until two days ago. It takes forever for my iPhone 3Gs to come out of sleep, make a phone call, change screens, load up ANYTHING.

I wasn't so disappointed as the update seemed to help but I've turned off ALL options for backups and this phone is very, very slow, now.

Now that all the updates are in, all the back-ups are turned off, what should I do to restore it to former speed?

Seriously Apple, F*@K YOU!

I was away for a holiday for the last two weeks having a great time when I got onto the hotel's WiFi. Then pops a notification saying there is an update for my iPhone 3GS.

I said, "Sweet!". Let's see what you can do.

And yes, DO it did! I basically turned my phone into a brick! I have tried everything here, including turning off iCloud, Game Center, etc. Nothing works.

Thank you very F*@KING MUCH Apple. Thank you so very F*@KING MUCH for SCREWING us all over.

Like some of my other disenchanted brethen/users here, I will NEVER go Apple, EVER AGAIN!

"Are you sure about that?", you ask. FOR SURE.

I just went out and got myself a Samsung Galazy Tab 7.7 and Google Nexus (Ice Cream Sandwich 4) all in the same day. Definitely money MUCH BETTER spent! Yes, the new iPad looks nice but I don't want to be screwed by you again.

Seriously, look after your customers (yes, including your older ones).

Stever Jobs must be turning over now knowing what you are doing to us.

I apologise to all my fellow users here for the use of language. Clearly not directed at any of you.

Just those rotten apples....

Crazy to come across this-- Have had 3GS forever and worked fine-- then the upgrade-- nothing but problems-- restored several times. Phone does not function when battery under 35% (which happnes too quickly). Daughter having same problems. Cant believe Apple would do this-- does not appear that they have acknowledged, offered a fix! Just got son a Samsung Galaxy-- unreal. Google is going to eat Apple's lunch. Anyone else really tired of dealing with iTunes for everything (who in Cupertino believes iTunes is an intuitive way to manage anything?) I was ready to upgrade (simply for a better camera), but now I'm po'd enough to abandon ship.

I´ve now updated to latest version 5.1 (9b176) on my 3GS and somethings became to the better. When I started this discussion my iphone was terrible to use. But now after a few updates it have been to the better. I still have the same setups and programs installed. My experiance up to now: Still slow, but it become some better. Battery issue, latest update made it worse in fact. iOS drain my battery now less in one day. 😟. Shouldn´t be to the better????

Shortly. I can live this for a short while. I hope for a Iphone 5 soon with real 4G that support our freq. in Sweden. I hope Apple don´t make the same mistake as they did with the Ipad 3.

After all this problems with updating to iOS 5, I still fancy my Iphone 3GS 🙂 . It´s still useble. And I will stay in the Apple family. I have never had the same mobile phone for so long time. 28 month!!!! Best ever.

Hi I think I've found the solution to iPhone 3GS running slow on newer versions of ios. Do this: turn off all iCloud apps except find my iPhone. Turn off all spotlight search options except contacts, which is the most useful. Most importantly, turn off all Notifications, which I never remembered to look at anyway. They are what displays when you drop-down the screen. Restart your phone every few days, and it will run as sweetly as the day you bought it. Much better battery life too I've noticed. One more thing, turn off push for calendar synch and set to fetch every hour Orr half hour. This will improve battery life too. It seems like you are turning off a lot of great

Features but I don't miss them at all and I love having my phone back to what it was. I'm running iOS 5.

Adam.
