Iphone 3GS slow after update to iOS 5

After updated to iOS 5 my Iphone 3GS became generel slow.

Graphics and starting apps are slow. Some apps have now up to 10-15 seconds start time.

I thought closing the Iphone and restart clould help, but NO.

Yeah, like OS windows upstarts. 😁

Ok. processor not the same as new Iphone 4s.

I started to regret my update to iOS5.

My 3GS worked fine until I installed iOS5. It froze displaying the start-up apple icon. I restored it to factory settings with no luck. Downgrading procedures are not working with the new iTunes. Basically, iOS5 killed my 3GS. Apple people please consider the following:

1. Please allow people to downgrade the iOS.

2. If not, please offer new iOS's that have like two versions: for newer and older models (e.g., lighter versions, fewer new options). And let people decide what's best for them.

Hi people, I've been following this post since I've posted on it originally and it seems like that I wasnot the only one with this problems. I thought I update you after ups 5.0.1 update.

Nothing has been fixed with this updates on my 3GS(it was more for 4s and their battery issue)

Horizontal scroll still lags keyboard lags during horizontal scroll. ( try to reply to this post from your iOS device and reach the scroll motions to the side)

Music player not been fixed like music count or album art cover.

However I have managed to resolve slow phone issue back in 5.0.

All I did was backup to iCloud and then restore phone to factory an then restored it from iCloud, now I am using all features of ios iCloud find my phone contacts photo stream and the rest.

But since iOS 5 I have not enjoyed my phone at all ill I've been experiencing is frustration and dissapointment after dissapointment. I used to love nu phone my music my cover flow now I hate it I cat even look at my lovely coverflow as music player crashes to springboard and need to relaunch app.

Come on apple fix this problem.

If you guys want I can post a YouTube video of what I mean(I leave link here later on).

Keep posting hope apple will take some action.

In general I did not experience the slowdowns reported here EXCEPT that I find the camera is extremely slow to start and sometimes freezes completley. It is still the same (perhaps even worse?) in 5.0.1. I find it's kind of important that the camera leaps into action fast because that's the whole point of have an "always with you" icture taking capability - to capture the moment. Anyone else seeing this?

@polarbreeze1 I think your camera problem is not related to other issues on this thread. I believe that the number of pictures in your Camera Roll affects the startup time of the camera and it gets better if you move pictures off the Roll into synced folders or off the iPhone completely. After the iOS5 upgrade I no longer have any pictures on my iPhone and I do see that the camera starts up faster than it did when I had a bunch of pictures on the Camera Roll.

If not that, you might search for other threads relating specifically to camera performance.

I guess I will add to the issue count. I have a iPhone 3GS and installed iOS5. Since then, my phone crashes 2-3 times a day, it has a hard time find the cell networks (no 3G and says no network often), and eats up a fully charged battery overnight searching for connections. The network connection problem is starting to be more of a problem than the crashes since a phone that cannot make calls is not good for much. Fixing my phone is now my number one use of my free time! AT&T store says I should just upgrade my phone. This a software issue! I upgraded to iOS5.01 and it seems to be no different.

My wife had similar issues with her iPhone3G and iOS4. We made 3 trips to the Apple Store to do a deep recovery to bring it back to life. They told us it was a hardware issue and we needed to buy a new phone. iOS4.1 fixed all the problems and the phone worked great.

I guess I am in for the same ride and will hope iOS5.1 fixes my issues. Apple PLEASE HELP!!!!

I have now updated to iOS 5.0.1 after a few weeks of unstable iphone 3gs with iOS 5.0. I got a feeling that it runs better now. Quicker responding in generell. I will test my apps now and see if the works better. I have not done anything with my iphone before updating to new iOS 5.0.1. I use iCloud to synk between my iphone, Ipad2 and Macbook Pro. So far it runs ok with the new update. Before it was some slow to use iCloud and the iphone. But I need to test a few days now. I will come back with more info. But in generell my iPhone 3gs behaviour is better.

Yes. But I guess we're all just crazy to think that when our phones pop up a message encouraging us to install a new OS, that maybe it was, ya know, ok to install that OS. I guess it was up to us to study up on the specs of the hardware and software and follow message boards and all that. After all, one should expect that an OS update could turn your perfectly working phone into a p.o.s.

As for my particular situation, ever since updating to 5.0.1 my phone seems to be back to normal. I have no idea why since there's nothing in the patch that was supposed to fix these issues, but I won't complain. Sorry that apparently others aren't having the same experience.

I´ve tested my Iphone 3GS with iOS 5.0.1 for a few days. I thought it would be better in the beginning, but no. Still slow. I checked the diagnostic under settings...about.. It´s full with LowMemeory. First a few but now many messages and the iphone becamae slower and slower. Suddenly the Iphone restarts. I wrote before about memory leakage, yes there must be a heavy leakage. The Iphone 3GS consume memory. Battery life seems to be the same.

I have also updated my wifes Iphone 3GS now directly to 5.0.1 now. I´m waiting for comments from her.
