After ios 5 upgrade songs won't load into iphone4

It appears like iTunes is syncing all the songs onto my iPhone (i'm watching the individual songs go from grey to black under Devices > My iPhone > Music) from the iTunes side, but all the songs appear as greyed out on my iPhone. In other words, i can see them, but they won't play.

Any advice? I'm a music freak and this is killing me.

HI - I had the same problem of the majority of tunes (all legal) showing in light grey on my iphone 4s and unable to play. However, I unchecked the box - convert higher bit songs to 128 AAC (or something close to that ha ha) and hey presto! - after restarting the the download from Itunes on my PC, all transferred and in half the time.

To add to my previous post most of my sons are grey out, nothing I've tried has worked. I can find te convert bit rate option. As an added note my movies all purchased from iTunes will not add to my library (from my external drive)

Previously add no issue of this sort, only after update to ios5/ iTunes 10.5.

Cant call support, can't afford the fees. Any help????

Hello.

I just upgraded to the new iOS5 on my iPad and, although it all seemed to transfer as expected (all Apps, settings, music and playlists, etc.), I cannot manage to play more than one song at a time and at times not even that. On the upper right, I see the arrow that indicates that there is audio but in fact there is no sound at all. A week ago, I performed the same update on an iPad2 and the music is playing without problems there. If I try the same steps on the (older) iPad, nothing works ... (By the way, compared to the old App, the new interface is ********, to say the least. Is Apple hiring Windows engineers?). Thanks.

Ok - to all those fed up with greyed out songs on their iphones after the latest software download, try this:- Plug your device into your PC or laptop with Itunes running. Once recognised in the left hand column, click on the device. (iphone, iPad etc) On this page select summary. Then scroll down to "convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC. Un- select it. Then sync again. This is where most of the problems arise from. Maybe in the next download from Apple this bug will be fixed. I hope this works for you as it did for me. Peter.

Well at least some people are getting some music. I on the other hand can not get diddly squat onto my iphone4, since ugrading to ios5, this includes video. Tried all the usual tricks but to no avail, it just will not transfer to phone.

Wish I could turn back the clock to ios4, at least I could transfer music and such to my phone.

It would seem that Apple have created quite a fiasco around the world with this, as looking on the net I am only one of possibly millions with this problem.

APPLE NEED TO SORT THIS OUT WITH SOME URGENCY, BEFORE PEOPLE START TO LEAVE FOR OTHER DEVICES!!!!!

Because of this, all the personalised ring tones I had for my various contacts will no longer work, as I CAN'T get them onto the 😠 B----Y phone.

COME ON APPLE SORT THIS MESS OUT

Same problem here—my iPhone 4 worked fine on iOS 5 for about a week, with occasional glitches in Music. Then yesterday, Music just failed entirely and gave me the White Screen of Death. I've tried restoring and adding my music library from iTunes again (5000ish songs, so nine hours :-\ ), tried the soft reboot, tried unchecking the convert higher bit songs to 128. Nothing so far has worked.

Except my 2005 40GB 4th generation iPod. That's what I'm using for music in my car now instead of my 10-month-old iPhone 4. Unbelievable.

I have a different problem then everyone else... I'm on my second iphone 4s after the screen on the first was bad out of the box. I was having the problem where most of my mustic wouldn't play at all. It would act like its playing, just do nothing. Another sync and it fixed that problem. My new problem is that I have a favorites playlist, which is set to sync, yet only 36 of the 65 songs are on my iphone. I've synced multiple times with the cable and once over wifi. I'm stumped. Most of the are songs that I purchased through itunes. It looks as if everything is copied, just nothing is there on the phone. Anyone else run into this yet? I feel like I'm getting really good at finding problems that no one else has..

Hello,

Not quite sure what I did, but VOILLA!! all working again. I did notice one thing, as I was trying to sync my phone it came up in itunes that my phone was already linked to another music library. I had to re-asign it to the new library. I think this may be because to get the ios5 to work you have to update itunes to version 10.5, and in the process it messes with the library settings, and once ios5 is on yer phone itunes thinks it's a new phone, AND, "LOW AND BEHOLD" YOU CAN ONLY HAVE ONE PHONE LINKED TO ONE LIBRARY. 😮

After a few tries with syncing music via the sync screen, I tried drag & drop onto my phone and this is now working as well.

I had to reload my ringtones back into itunes to get them back onto my phone but after after a bit of messing around that all worked as well. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE IF THIS WAS NOT THE CASE, WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO KEEP RELOADING THINGS 😠

Not sure if this is of any use to anyone, but it seems to have worked for me YIPPPEEEEEEE!!!!!!!! 🙂
