screen sharing with apple id not working

Hi, I have a MacBook Pro and a Mac Book Air both running Lion. The user accounts on both machines have the same apple ID associated with them but when I try to screen share from one to the other using the apple ID it won't work - am I missing something?! I've set up the same sharing options etc.

When connecting it says: Authentication Failed to "MattMac" Please try again with different credentials.

I removed the apple id through the advanced options popup by right clicking on the users name in system preferences>users, then selecting the apple id and hitting the '-' at the bottom. That removed the hash. Then I set the appled id again and it was inserted properly.

I tried that, no go. It just doesn't create the entry; no matter what. I have even tried making new sharing only accounts, same problem. The user ID of the main (admin) account on the Macbook Pro is 502 while on my iMac where everything works it's 501, could that be a problem?

I wasn't having any luck trying to screen share to a new Lion 10.7.2 iMac with a standard local user name and PW - much less an AppleID. I was having similar problems - "Authentication failed..." Ultimately, I was able to resolve my particular problem by changing the "Full Name" under Accounts in System Preferences on the Lion computer. Originally, I had the account name (i.e. short name) set to the same thing as the "Full Name". I changed the "Full Name" to something different, and after a few seconds I was able to finally screen share by using the new "Full Name" as the login. I still cannot connect with the short name, but at least the problem is solved for me. Hope this helps someone.

This solution worked for me too. Also after several minutes.

I was now wondering whether I can associate my account with two different apple id's so my husband can also login into our desktop computer using his apple id?

I am experiencing this very same issue, with the same setup as you: a Macbook Air trying to connect to a Macbook Pro.

I believe that this is the correct fix. It may be caused by the migration from mobileme to icloud (meaning that you might have had this apple id connected since mobileme on your computer and later on migrated to icould).

I had the same issue. Going to the user panel and removing the linked Apple ID from the user on both machines, and then adding the linked Apple ID back, resolved the issue for me.
