AppStore and iCloud aunthefication problems (maybe hardware related things)

Hi. I have MBP (2006) with broken ethernet port but working wifi. I never woried about it cause I've used wireless everywhere.I had the interface "Ethernet" in the list of interfaces for years but MBP has not seen any cable plugged into it.

But after update to 10.7.x (I didn't really noticed when it had happened) ethernet interface has been missed from the list of interfaces. And at the same time AppStore stoped to work with my apple id with the message "Your device or computer could not be verified. Contact support for assistance". And now after starting iCloud services it doesn't work too: "This Apple ID is valid but is not an iCloud account"

My apple id is ok, I've checked it 4 times, everything is verified, I can buy applications and music at iTunes Music Store, authorize and deauthorize computers use it for iMessage on my iPad etc. iCloud works too on my iPad and at the website icloud.com — I can sync everything, backup to iCloud etc. But neither purchases at AppStore nor iCloud features works on my MacBook Pro.

I think its some eth0/eth1 related things, cause most of solutions for broken Apple ID on Macs are: "Remove /Library/Preferences/SystemConfigurations/* then reboot". I did it thosands of times but nothing happens. I tried to reset SMC but it doesn't work too — ethernet interface is still missing, AppStore and iCloud give me strange error messages and doesn't work.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.2)

Make sure you follow the prep/install instructions from http://forum.netkas.org/index.php/topic,1123.0.html.

I've used the one from here: http://www.osx86.net/view/2040-chameleon_2.1svn_r1686_with_smbios_installer.html

I found it best to install the latest Chameleon (Chameleon_2.1svn_r1686_trunk.pkg) to an unused partition using the settings below and just copy the extra/smbios.plist from this install to your boot partition. In the zip file from the latest Chameleon there is also just the boot file you need (boot) - copy this manually to the boot partition - don't install it via the .pkg.

User uploaded file

ALSO - Either use the code below for your org.chameleon.Boot.plist or the one attached to http://forum.netkas.org/index.php/topic,1123.0.html, as the one from the Chameleon install won't work as it contains too many keys/info aimed at Hackintoshes - and this won't boot your real mac.

I've got a USB ethernet plugged in - but therotically it should just work with your airport activated.

One last thing once you have all the file/settings setup don't forget to run the following in terminal (where boot is the name of your boot parition):

sudo bless --folder /Volumes/Boot --file /Volumes/Boot/boot --setBoot --legacy

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

<plist version="1.0">

<dict>

<key>Default Partition</key>

<string>hd(0,3)</string>

<key>EthernetBuiltIn</key>

<string>Yes</string>

<key>GraphicsEnabler</key>

<string>Yes</string>

<key>Kernel Flags</key>

<string></string>

<key>Timeout</key>

<string>5</string>

</dict>

</plist>

Hi,

Just an update to say that I've managed to re-create the settings (serial, processor info, etc) to match my actual macmini and this still allows access to the app store.

Something is still different, though, as at the moment the kexts (drivers) for the graphics card and audio aren't loading.

Also, the previous instructions will get your mac to boot in 64-bit kernel mode (in Snow Leopard). I'd recommend only booting in 32-bit kernel mode to make sure everything is as apple intended.

In the org.Chameleon.Boot.plist file add these lines in to achieve that:

<key>Kernel Flags</key>

<string>arch=i386</string>

<key>Timeout</key>

Proper summary and step-by-step instructions coming soon.

At the moment it's a solution to gain access to the AppStore to purchase and download updates. I'd recommend not booting your mac for day to day use, yet using this method - so for iCloud purposes it's not quite there as a fix yet.

Hope this is helpful.
