"Turn your new phone off - a "hard" off. A reset. Press home button and on/off button and hold them down until you see the apple. Wait a few minutes and turn phone on. Worked for me! (If it is showing NO SERVICE)"

That worked for me. My son had been waiting about 7 hours for his new iPhone 4s to activate (I did it in iTunes while setting it up). I finally turned it off/on and it became active.

Thanks.

THE SOLUTION IS AS FOLLOWS.

Step 1: Turn iPhone 4s off.

Step 2: w/ iPhone 4s unplugged from PC or MAC usb cable, and usb end still plugged into PC or MAC. Hold the home button for about 10 seconds. Then continue holding the home button and plug the apple end of the USB cable into the iPhone.

Step 3: An itunes icon pops up. A message on iTunes says that the iPhone 4s is in restore mode.

Step 4: Follow the procedure and your iPhone shall activate.

Note: This little secret of holding the home button only and then plugging the phone in was told to me by an apple tech support representative. Why they dont know this at ATT or have it posted on the website in red bold letters behooves me. Any ways i hope this solution helps everyone with this issue. ENJOY !!!!
