iTunes Play Count isn't accurate
I love iTunes...but the iTunes Play Count just isn't accurate. It's not accurate because people often flick to the next song when the current song is 95% complete. That's because the last few seconds of a song may contain guitars fading out, white noise or even just silence and if you've an iPod in your hand or iTunes at your fingertips, people often just select the next song.
iTunes Play Count only counts a song as being played if it plays every single second of a song. But if you listen to 5 minutes and 56 seconds of a 6 minute song, surely you've still heard the song, right? Therefore, I think iTunes should count a song as being played if you've played, say 90% of the song. That seems like the best compromise.
Yes, I've emailed the suggestion in a couple of times over the years but no-one is listening. Does anyone else think this is something that should be changed? Looking forward to hearing your comments - or better still, tell Apple!
(Yes, I know the Play Count is useless to a lot of people but I like it. But I don't like the fact that some of my very favourite songs, the songs I've played maybe hundreds of times, only show up as being played a handful of times - that's because they're sometimes the last track on an album and may have minutes of feedback or noise etc as the album winds down. But I've heard the song, so iTunes should count it!)
