Hi, I had the same problem and the only solution that worked was to change all references to the old name in the PC's Registry. Caution, read the last sentence before attempting this.

Type regedit in the search field and when you find it, open the program. Click Edit then click on "Find" and type in the old iphone name you want to get rid of, eg. 'Joe's iphone'. When it is found (exactly as it appears in Windows) replace it (and ONLY it) with the name you want eg. 'Fred's iphone'. Keep searching the registry and change every reference to the old name. When no more can be found, close regedit and reconnect your phone. It will now show the same name as the itunes name. Note: type the registry name and itunes name exactly the same.

DO NOT change anything else, if you make a mistake when working in the Registry it can have serious consequences with your PC's operation. Do this at your own risk. If unsure create a System Restore point first.

The problem with going into the registry and changing all the references to the wrong phone's name to the right phone's name is that the phone with the right name will now have the wrong name!

So you have Phone A and Phone B, and they are bothed named correctly in iTunes.

But in Windows explorer they appear as Phone A and Phone A.

So you change all references to Phone A, to Phone B.

So now in Windows explorer you will have Phone B and Phone B.

To get it correct you will have to change the details of only the incorrectly named phone.

As to whether it works, I've no idea.

I'm waiting for the bug fix release to see if it fixes it, and if not then I'll report it to Apple.

I too have the same issues. The names of both Iphones 4 show up correctly in Itunes, just not in Windows Explorer. This is only on out Windows 7 machine, not the XP machine. After doing everything mention Explorer now shows both phones as Apple Iphone.

I was hopeing the latest fix frmo Apple 5.0.1 would correct this but it does not appear to be working by showing the correct name in Explorer.

Maybe someday it will, just maybe....

I have three iPhones that connect to the same computer, and it will only recognise two of them in Windows Explorer (Windows 7).

iTunes is fine.

Whenever I connect my phone, it shows as my brother's phone, however, when my daughter connects, it identifies the correct phone name.

Have tried the above fixes; agree with not changinging the registry, as this just masks the problem, but does not fix it.

Everything works OK, but I just want my computer to recognise my iPhone.

My work computer recognises it correctly, but that is the only iPhone connected.

Would appreciate a solution. Thanks.

I was facing the same issue, the windows explorer was showing my friend iPhone name whenever I plugin my iPhone.

I was able to resolve the issue by modifying all entries in Registry.

Open regsitry by typing regedit in command window, pull Edit menu and Find wrong iPhone name 'XXX' and Modify the field to your correct iPhone name. Remember, to find next and modify every instance.

It will resolve the issue.

Thank you Eka Timurahayudha for the specific path.

Unfortunately, I see no incorrect name for the iPhone that I can change.

I see only 11 different names like:
