Push notifications for specific apps not working even though the badge updates (Facebook, Google etc.)

So this has been happening for months now. I was expecting iOS 5 to fix it, but it hasn't. Push notifications for specific apps do not work. Some come through just fine, but Facebook and Google+ in particular don't work correctly. Facebook push notifications seem to work when the notification is generated from an action performed on a mobile device (ie: someone writes on my wall from another iPhone); if they do the same thing on the desktop, the notification doesn't seem to come through.

As for Google+, I've never seen a single push notification come through as it should, even though I've seen other iPhones with the same app reciving these notifications with no issue.

This is particularly strange because the badge on the app icon usually updates (though it feels like fetch, not push), but the notifications simply don't make it into the notification center (or on the lock screen as they should). As I said, this has been happening for months, long before iOS 5, and the problem has persisted now that I'm running iOS 5.

I've checked and rechecked all notifiation settings for these apps. I've uninstalled and reinstalled them. I've called Apple support and they couldn't offer me any help. Does anyone have any idea what's going on here?

I dont know if it is "the" fix...but I know it has worked for a couple of people and myself. I would like to believe that this is "the" fix because it makes complete sense. Make sure you guys are deactivating your facebook account from the PC..because thats the way I did it. Not sure if it makes a difference.

Did u deactivate it from your FB account on the PC? That might make a difference. Otherwise I dont know what else to say..It has worked for a couple of people so far. Also are you on iOS5.1 that might make a difference aswell.

Thank you Benz for this information. I want to turn on my notifications to see them on the sidebar of my Mac as it shows in the video but do not know how to turn them on. I am reading all that IOS has to offer so I am quite new to these discussions.

I seem to want to turn them on only to see them and not hear them. I do not know if that is possible. I do see that most people want to turn them off as they can be distracting.

If you know how I can put turn notifications on and off quickly as I need to, please let me know. I specifically wanted google and a way to get to facebook quickly so it may or may not be worth turning them on.

I have a 3gs with 5.1.1. NOT jailbroken, it's been doing this for about a month. I don't want to upgrade because I have had so many people tell me how terrible the 6.0.0 version is, I'd rather just not go near it. And I use google maps a lot. And I've read other people online who say it didn't fix the problem.

Anyway, same thing, have tried all the 'fixes' out there, this is driving me absolutely nuts. Open to suggetsions! cheers
