Itunes won't sync after upgrade to iOS 5

I've looked around here and most people are dealing with error codes and such but my upgrade appeared to go flawless. But when it was complete and the iPad 1 came up it had the folders I created post upgrade but none of the Apps. I checked iTunes and they're all there even the 78 books I had in iBooks but none of them are on the iPad. I've tried syncing several times, even done a complete restore but I can't seem to get the stuff from iTunes on my MacBook Pro to the iPad. Anyone have an idea? Am I missing something basic?

I got it to work!!! Really easliy it turned out.

I had two problems actually. The apps still are not syncing, but the "greyed out" music/book I got to work.

Instead of dropping files into Itunes library and then dropping them into my device, I dropped them straight to the device, bypassing the library and Viola, it was all there!!! (Honestly, it happened on accident).

Tried that and got the music to synchronize. That's the best I've been able to do in a week! Thanks.

You have to make sure everything is backed up correctly because it appears to wipe out everything when the new OS is installed. You have to say yes to continue on...........Even though I thought I backed everything up, it wiped out custom ringtones, 400 songs and completely rearranged the iTunes settings. It appears to setup iTunes in a default mode and ignore your previous settings. Forget the iCloud, I'm staying home.

I face the same problem last week. After upgrading my itunes n OS, i tried to sync photos, music and so on but the backing up process was like never ending task. It was like forever. What i did was, store all my musics and photos in the itunes library, then close.

Connect my ipad 2 to the computer, let the iTunes open and running itself (what i did before was, i open the iTunes, connect the cable, start syncing but never succede). So problem resolved.

Hope, this will help.

Ok. Huge but persistent dummy here. I read posts from all over about sync issues. In my own case, ringtones and photos wouldn't sync. I did this:

Backed everything up

Uninstalled-reinstalled itunes.

Rebooted pc Windows xp and then phone 3gs

Unchecked the ringtones box in itunes

Synced the phone.

Disconnected phone

Checked the ringtones box

Reconnected and synced the phone

Ringtones are back

Unchecked photos box in itunes

Synced the phone (this erased all photos on the phone)

Went to directory in Windows and deleted subfolders where my pics are stored.

Checked the photos box in itunes

Disconnected phone

Reconnected and synced my phone

Photos are back

I then disconnected phone and reconnected it to back up phone to my computer, not cloud (option is in summary window when you scroll down).

Phone is ok.

There seem to be a LOT of posts on the web about issues with syncing after upgrading to iOS 5. I'm having tons of issues.

iPhone 4: Syncs OK, but my music playlists don't sort properly. Special symbols are ignored in the alpha sort. I purposely used "*" as a prefix for some playlists to get them to appear at the top of the list. No more. Also, smart playlists sort in reverse date order, regardless of how they're set up in iTunes. Very annoying.

iPad 1: Much bigger problems. The initial install wiped out my apps, forcing me to reinstall and in certain cases re-purchase apps (Navionics no longer makes the marine map app I bought for $25, forcing me to buy the new $35 version. Argh!) Then tried to backup and sync again, and only some of my apps are backing up to iTunes (random and weird). Also, sync never completes. Gets to last step (7) and just keeps spinning saying "Waiting to copy items...." I'm backing upand syncing via USB cable to a MBP, connected via Ethernet to a Time Capsule where my iTunes lib llives.

Very frustrating. Please recount your sync issues here as well - maybe we can get some attention from the product dev folks so we get a quick update.

Unbelievable...very unlike Apple...

I am having the same problem. I updated my iPod Touch this afternnon with much excitement and anticipation only to spend the last 2 hours trying unsuccessfully to sync my music library. Everything else is there. I've tried everything listed here but to wipe out the iPod with a "Restore". I am using a Macbook to sync and it simply sits there for about 20 seconds "Determining Tracks to Sync" then finishes without syncing anything. iTunes does show a list of greyed out music under the iPod DEVICES entry.

Anyone have any other suggestions that what has already been posted??

So I finally found a post on another site that worked:

1) I selected "Sync Only Checked Songs and Videos" (summary screen for the iPod in iTunes)

2) Unchecked All my songs (Music -> Select All -> Right-Click -> "Uncheck Selection")

3) Sync

4) Checked All my songs (Music -> Select All -> Right-Click -> "Check Selection")

5) Sync

voila (still frustrated with all that effort 😟 but happy to have my songs back...now to recreate all stuff I lost when trying the other solutions 😟 😟)

I upgraged to iOS5 Friday night and today noticed that all of my albums imported from iphoto were missing. I tried to sync (not with icloud). It gets through the sync process to last step to sync photos, says "analyzing photo library" and then crashes.

Have done it 3 times with the same result everytime. Apps, music and text messages are okay--just photos.

Any help??

Just want to add a "me, too" here in hopes of getting Apple's attention.

My experience seems to be most similar to joshrocker's and Steve from Holly Springs. I get up to Step 5 of 6, "Determining Tracks to Sync," at which point the sync seems to freeze. Spinning pinwheel for about 3 minutes, and then iTunes cancels the sync.

I used one of the workarounds in this thread but still was not able to sync an audiobook I bought post-iOS5; all other media synced using the workaround.

I would like to be able to sync the way I always have.
