Caller ID not working on iPhone 4S

Just got an iPhone 4S today. Also switched from AT&T to Verizon. For some reason, I am only getting caller ID on contacts that have the country code added to their numbers. I turned off International Assist, and it didn't do anything. When I add the country code to the number in the Address Book, the caller ID works just fine.

Is there any way to fix this? Or is there any way to add all the country codes at once instead of doing it manually to 400+ phone numbers?

This is a helpful thread - thanks to the solution posters. I read part-way down and did a Restore on my iPhone - took about an hour to download the software, extract install and restore my settings from my last backup. While we were doing that, I did the *228, press 1 fix mentioned later in this thread on my wife's phone - it worked beautifully in about 30 seconds.

For those trying to piece together details of this issue, we both upgraded from AT&T on one 3G and one iPhone 4, to new 4S's on Verizon, purchased at the Apple Store and activated WITHOUT iTunes at home (as suggested at the Apple store - "use the activation prompts on the phone itself"). We both then restored our data and settings from our previous phone's most recent backup, and both had this issue of incorrectly formatted phone numbers, which maybe also effects recognition of text messages.

Thanks again to the helpful posters.

Just got off the phone with Apple Support. This worked for me. Go to Settings > General > Reset, and select Reset Network Settings.

Your phone will turn off and then back on. I texted a person whose name wasn't showing up, and it initially looked like it did nothing. But about 1 minute after I texted him, his number changed to his name. So, it looks like future calls and texts resolve the issue, after resetting network settings.

This didn't work for me not my son. I have the 4s and he just has the 4 ad we're both having the same issue and it didn't work for either of us. We didn't switch from another carrier either. I had his iPhone 4 and it worked fine when I had it. I got the 4s and he inherited my 4 and now neither of ours is working right as far as caller id and text messages.

Not sure this belongs here or not. I don't have this same exact problem, but I do have a problem with Caller ID when connecting with Bluetooth. When the bluetooth device supports caller ID, only some of the numbers are coming through from my IPhone 4s. Others come in as UNKNOWN. But if I look at the phone, it is all working fine. It's random too. I've sync'd the phonebook a few times, but still an issue with the same numbers. Never had this issue with my BB

I had the same problem. My phone numbers no longer had the dashes and when people called, I just got the number all jumbled together. I found this on another discussion board, I did it and waited for the reset and about 30 seconds later all my contacts were fixed! Incoming call had name and picture. Easy fix

here's what apple support had me to which fixed it:
1. call verizon at *228 and hit option 1 to re-program
2. double-tap home to get multi-tasking bar and kill the phone app (i killed all apps)
3. check it out, it should work.

Right after it didn't seem fixed, but within a minute all contacts got their "dashes"

I've tried a few of the solutions on this thread over the last 24 hours without success. This last one worked for me. I had already tried Step 1. The description on Step 2 sealed the deal. Make sure you are out of the phone app when you double tap to get the multi-tasking bar. So hit the home button once to get to a main app screen and then double-tap. Once you have deleted the phone app hit home button again and you will see phone app. Access the phone app and hopefully you will see that all is well like I did. Thanks Badger96.

Bought my 4s on Oct 14 in a service transfer from ATT to Verizon. Everything worked as expected and I was very pleased with my new toy! Flew from Cleveland to Atlanta on Oct 24 and have had the same caller ID issues as stated above. I reset my settings, tried the above *228 update, and even restored my iPhone through iTunes... still nothing! My phone log is registering my contacts but, not my messaging log. However, I've noticed my messaging log to sporadically process accurate contact displays but then, right when I become relieved, they eventually revert back to just the phone number. It's so amazingly frustrating!!!

I've spoke with Apple and Verizon... and it looks like I just need to wait around on a patch update.

Here's to not being satisfied!!!

Hi badger96,

I wanted to thank you for your helpful posting as this was the only solution that worked for me (tried every other solutions mentioned on these forums and by Verizon/iPhone representatives). I believe this is still a serious software bug that Apple needs to address, so hopefully everyone with this problem will contact Apple to report the issue and get them to fix this issue instead of forcing people to first do resets, restores, etc. until you are about ready to go back to a rotary dial phone.

Thanks!
