Caller ID not working on iPhone 4S

Just got an iPhone 4S today. Also switched from AT&T to Verizon. For some reason, I am only getting caller ID on contacts that have the country code added to their numbers. I turned off International Assist, and it didn't do anything. When I add the country code to the number in the Address Book, the caller ID works just fine.

Is there any way to fix this? Or is there any way to add all the country codes at once instead of doing it manually to 400+ phone numbers?

Hi guys, I was reading your posts and thought maybe someone could help me out. I have a US + Mexico plan with VZW and am using an iPhone 4s. When I am in Mexico, my caller id stops working, the numbers don't even show up in caller id, all i get is Unknown, however text messages do show a number and display the correct name when I receive them. When I call to the States, my number and my wife's number always shows up as 3335555, I was wondering if there is any way to at least have the phone display a number instead of Unknown?

Thanks ahead for any suggestions.

Short Answer: Change the language to French, let it complete the change, then change back to English.

Detail:

Settings, General, International, Language. Change from English to another language (anything other than English) and pressed "Done." After a brief "pinwheel" the phone appeared in the new language. Now use the same process and switch back to English.

Related by another user. Tried today, January 29, 2011 on another new iPhone 4s on Verizon.

I'm in Nepal with a factory unlocked Iphone 4s. If the callers number has been listed with the country code for Nepal (+977) then the callers id doesnt show but the their sms id does show, If the callers number has been listed withOUT the country code then the caller id doesnt show but the sms ID does. This really annoying ! Can anyone advise a fix for this proble.

@steveinnepalHere's a solution until Apple fixes their OS. I had this exact problem. I am in Libya where country code is (+218). The only solution that worked for me is to have every contact saved with a name and two same phone numbers but one of them with (+218) and the other one without it. So the (+218) one works for the text messages and the one without it works for the phone calls. I beleive this would work for you too.

it's iMessage that's doing the corruption

This is not a solution, but I'm working on the hopes that some tech at Apple or Verizon is reading these threads.

Once you've done *228, and the language change, and the network reset -- you'll likely find that your callerid works, but if you received text messages from other iPhone users, their names are gone and list as +1(123) 555-1212 in the general list of all texts senders (in the US). If you open up one of those individual texts, you'll see at the top that it ALSO is from +1(123) 555-1212. HOWEVER...

If you go to Settings->Messages and turn iMessage OFF, you'll see that the heading of the INDIVIDUAL text changes to (123) 555-1212, no country code. The country code continues to appear in the general listing of all texts received, but NOT in the individual heading.

Turn iMessage back ON, the country code reappears in the individual texts.

Apple and/or Verizon need to review their CallerID handling inside the "handy" iMessage communications layer. That's where the pollution occurred and that's where it continues.

This worked for me as well (yeah!) But I would like to add this.

I did not know that you could kill an app and didn't even know what that meant. For those who are unsure, double tap the home button to bring up the muti-tasking bar, if you hold down on the apps a small minus sign shows up, hit it, this is not a delete but a way to erase apps that are held in the multi task bar..no harm no foul in hitting the minus sign...no idea why it has that affect but it worked..thanks to all for the posts

It seems you can custom format numbers (many custom formats) in address book on a mac.

Then address book is smart enough to figure out which format to use for which country.

i.e. if you put +44 XXX XXX XXXX for a uk number, then it will automatically format it to THAT format as soon as you enter a number starting with 44. Furthermore, it will automatically update all +44 numbers to that format.

Then have everything synced automatically via icloud.

Though it looks great in Address book,

i still have a problem getting all that nice formatting to show up on the 4s 😟

Anyone have a solution?

Thanks
