As maskgasc points out, I have the same situation. I have the same problem as well as the same scenario: I want to share the same iPhoto library shared between 2 account in the same computer. Each time I open iPhoto, I get this error. In the past, the same computer, the same OS Lion version and same accounts, when I had iPhoto on my account Pictures folder, I didn't get the error never.

I figure out iPhoto isn't yet ready to work on Shared folders.

I have the exact same problem as the others. I downloaded iPhoto Library manager and rebuilt the library...but really dont know how to get that rebuilt library to work. I opened iPhoto and clicked rebuild and it went through the rebuild and when it gets to the thumbnails is keeps giving me pop up after pop up stating that certain pictures cannot be found, you either have to click cancel of click locate the file. I tried hitting cancel which seemed like FOREVER and couldn't get through the thumbnail process before it crashed. I have tried it several times with the same effect. I also deleted iphoto and downloaded it again which had no effect.

I am trying to muttle through merging the rebuilt library with the original library.

Any other insight on this process?

Thanks,

Rob

Give this a go:

Starting over from scratch with new library

Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:

1. Open the library package like this.

User uploaded file

2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.

3. Drag, a few at a time, the subfolders of the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window.

User uploaded file

This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.

Note: your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

Ok so I made a duplicate library with the recovery app...and the poriginal photo file is larger than the remade one. Why would it not be the same size? I tried to merge the two and remove duplicates but iPhoto goes right back onto that frozen state when I do. I thought I had it all resolved...maybe now. I am worried if I delete the original file I will lose pictures. I need to make room on the hard drive asap.

I had almost zero! I have a 500 GB hard drive and after making the copy it basically maxed out my hard drive space. I thought I had rebuilt the file etc. with iPhot library manager...but after all that one fo the libraries had an error and wouldn't open. I ended up backing up all my pictures etc. to an external hard drive...and have deleted the extra library of pictures. iPhoto still asks to redo the library then gets to the thumbnail section and says it could not find the original file for pretty much every picture. You can click cancel a billion times and halfway through it ...the program crashs. This whole ordeal has really turned me off to iPhoto...I shoot in RAW format on my camera and cannot take the chance of losing pictures due to iPhoto.

At this point I am really looking to use something else...maybe Lightroom. I have spent several days trying to repair things to no avail!
