It won't turn off. I've spoken to Apple. I'm gutted as the reception on 3G for calls is crap! I want my old iPhone 4 back!!

Hi Dave

Mine was lasting just under a day and they said a full day was about right on 3G! With 2G it used to last 3 days. So much for better battery life. I wanted to go back to a recon 4 but they wouldn't change it down for me. We just have to wait for Apple to change the phone back to being able to turn 3G off. Hopefully the more that complain, the quicker they will sort it

3 only uses 2G when 3G is not very good/available. In areas where they have strong 3G single, 2G is being switched off.

I presume this is why the option is not available. I don't have any problem with it as 3 have the best 3G network in the UK, just thought i'd mention that it's obviousy carrier-specific.

Sorry tal1971, you don't understand the issue and your response is worthless. Nothing personal, just the facts. Prior to your post I stated that Apple removed the feature and people should give them feedback if it affects them. Why try to undermine that effort with a senseless post when you clearly don't even understand the issue?

Obviously with me never switching the 3G off or wanting to do this on my iPhone then I wouldn't see it been a problem/issue if the option was removed.

I was basically just trying to put into perspective the issue of the removal of the option to disable 3G on the 4S by describing what would happen when there was poor/no 3G coverage.

Yeah fair enough, some people may have found the option to disable 3G useful, but like I said earlier, I was just trying to put the removal of the 3G option issue into perspective.

This is a problem in the USA as well as in the UK and it isn't not carrier specific. It seems to be part of the iOS 5. I most certainly had it with my iPhone 4 and with iOS 4xx.

While the phone will revert to 2G if it thinks it needs to, that isn't good enough. I can't go a whole day even on mostly standby. I've taken to turning off WiFi when I'm away from it because I can't turn off the 3G. I realize Siri won't work on 2G and maybe that is what has driven it-Apple's special, incredible new feature but if my phone has a dead battery it won't matter anyway.

Spread the news. Complain. We need to get this option back! Cheers.
