iTunes to iPhone "Unknown error 0xE800007F"

I have Wi-Fi Sync active and it works great unplugged from power -- but when I plug my phone into power and it starts syncing, iTunes says the following:

"iTunes could not connect to this iPhone because an unknown error occurred (0xE800007F)."

Searching gives me zilch. Anyone have an ideas? Everything is running the latest verison of iOS, etc., etc...

"

PC Users - please post issues in the right place and link to this thread from there. "

Seems a bit pointless since virtually the whole discussion on this subject, whether for Mac or for PC, has been conducted here in this forum. Mac, PC, who cares, the problem occurs on both platforms and the conversation happens to be mainly here.

But just for the record, the problem seems rarely to occur on my PC these days. Cannot say why, though.

Well, I just caught my iPhone4 trying to Wifi sync on its own when it was not connected to a power source. Came back home and as soon as I came in, I found the error up on the screen. I cleared it and pulled up iTunes and noticed that it was syncing my iPhone. My iPhone was sitting on the desk in front of me at that time and was not plugged in. This is the first time I have actually caught it performing the wifi sync while it was not plugged in.

I'll also post this over in the Windows thread as this was with iTunes 10.5, iOS 5.01 on a Win7-64bit system.

BTW, the sync did finish successfully.

Now on top of all this 7F error crap I also started getting the following error today. It started happening after I've updated my 2 iphones to 5.0.1. They are both visible in itunes but occasionally I'll get:

"An iPhone has been detected but could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPhone, then try again." (never mind they are connected over wifi apple, lol)

Anyone else?

Just a heads up to those in this thread, I spent a little extra time and effort and I posted my issue to the correct Windows forum (Thanks for pointing that out, I think a lot of us ended up here by search results and didn't realize we were posting in the Mac forum! Sorry!)

I did as instructed and posted as much detail as I could provide, as well as a link cross referencing this thread as what appears to be the same issue and the "main" thread. The output I posted includes the info from my Diagnostics log, as well as screenshots of the diagnostics results, and also a screenshot of the error message itself. Some of you may be interested in checking it out at least. Hopefully this extra detail will be of use, as it does provide some specifics that we wouldn't be able to provide just out of the blue. Only note is: if you would like to share your output results as well, be sure to check through it, as there are a couple of fields that I removed, because they were private; such as my device's serial number, my iTunes serial number, and any other private info. Just letting you guys know to watch out before hitting submit... 😉

Here is the link to the Windows iTunes thread that matches this one. Right now there are only 17 or so posts there, and it's but one page. My post would be at the bottom of the first page:

Theseus,

I think the problem is (as always with a huge issue like this) there are way too many threads open about the same problem, only confusing users... most instinctively post to the one with the most posts/activity in order to be heard, I suppose. As said, I corrected my mistake of posting to the wrong area, which was purely by mistake and I was focused on the issue and I didn't realize the search results had placed me in the Mac iTunes forum.

So just to clarify for everyone, as well as myself, one more time -- What is the "official" Windows thread for this? I posted a link to this in my post about 3 up from here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3399156

Can you or anyone else confirm/deny that is the correct/main thread for the Windows version? It seems awfully lean, but then again, I think everyone has been posting to here.

One more little note, I have noticed that there is a 5.1 beta 1 firmware for developers... which obviously hints at a future release of a 5.1 iOS version... hopefully it will fix some of the latent problems? This could possibly be a problem on the iOS end, rather than iTunes itself, even though it appears to be iTunes. What you'd call a "red herring" -- something that appears to point to A as the problem, when B is actually the real problem; it's a misleading clue.

I'm not sure about everyone else, but the so-called battery fix of 5.0.1 did just the opposite to my iPhone 4... my battery went from pretty solid to having to charge several times a day. Want to downgrade, but... ugh. Just please fix the major issues, Apple, please.

I'm also at the point where I'm about to just cut off wireless syncing... which was like... one of, if not THE major feature everyone was excited about for iOS 5. Now it's back to the old school way, tethered to the computer again. Is it allegorical? Are you trying to give us some freedom, then throw the leash back on to say "don't forget who is in charge here... you'll get an inch, don't take a mile." or -- LOL, for the rest of the world:

"We'll give you 2.54 centimeters, don't take 1.61 kilometers."

Sorry. Had to. I'm one of the few Americans who actually WANTS to get with the rest of the world and start using the metric system instead of "imperial units" or whatever we use. Stupid. Metric system is so much more... well... logical? Structured? Memorize a few prefixes and you're good to go. Kilo, centi, milli, let's get going!

I am running both a Mac with 10.7 and Windows 7. All softtware is fully patched as of 12/4/2011. I was/am having the same problem on both platforms. The issue is spradic and does not seem to stop the phones from syncing as long as I acknowledge all of the error messages in iTunes.

Since this issue seems to affect both Mac and Windows, I decided to reboot my NAT router (D-Link DIR-655). After restarting, both platforms seem to work well for a few days and then the errors start occuring again. I have not tried sniffing traffic and it maybe less effort to try replacing my router.

I suggest that posts include network equipment, since the issue may be outside Apple's control.
