iTunes to iPhone "Unknown error 0xE800007F"

I have Wi-Fi Sync active and it works great unplugged from power -- but when I plug my phone into power and it starts syncing, iTunes says the following:

"iTunes could not connect to this iPhone because an unknown error occurred (0xE800007F)."

Searching gives me zilch. Anyone have an ideas? Everything is running the latest verison of iOS, etc., etc...

@Subw00er,

No, sadly it's not exclusive to passcode locked iOS devices - I have an iPhone 4S which is not passcode locked and suffers the same problem multiple times a day. (Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit)

I can sync the phone, but iTunes is clunky and regularly hindered by the pop-up error message described by the original post.

I may have a solution; hopefully it's not too early to tell but it's been a few hours and still going all right.

I am using Win 7 64-bit, an iPhone 4 and an iPad 2. The problem was mainly with my iPhone 4 over WiFi sync, though eventually became a general problem syncing the iPhone even via USB. My iPad sometimes had issues as well when backing up - something about not being able to find the backup drive or volume.

Anyways, went to Control Panel and uninstalled iTunes, QuickTime, Bonjour, and Bonjour Print Service. Then rebooted. Then downloaded a fresh copy of iTunes and reinstalled. Then rebooted again. Now everything is cool.

Fingers crossed it sticks!

Same error message here with the iphone but not ipad2

iPad2

iphone4S

Windows XP SP3

Airport Extreme Router

iOS 5.0

iTunes 10.5.0.142

When the phone is out of range and then brought within range I get the popup box and error message. In general its iTunes wifi sync is not stable and after quitting and restarting iTunes, it may work for 1-2 syncs before having to quit and restart again (or restart the computer) to find the devices.

Mac OS X Lion users, this worked for me--let's hope it does for you. In iTunes Preferences, under the device tab, I had previously checked the box that says "Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically." Once I [UNCHECKED] this box, everything worked! No guarantees that it's a universal fix, but it worked for me. Good luck.

I think the issue is caused by iTunes trying to initiate wifi sync with the iPhone. Wifi sync is only done when the device is connected to power unless manually initiated from the settings menu; so when you start iTunes with your phone on the wifi network but not connected to power, iTunes will try to initiate sync but since the phone isnt plugged in, you get the message. It will happen if your phone leaves the wifi and returns as well.

Plug in your device and iTunes should automatically sync. If it doesnt work, try restarting iTunes.
