iTunes will not let me sync apps to my iPhone because it says I am not authorized on this computer, however my account is authorized!?

When I try syncing my apps onto my phone I get the message:" The app(s) were not installed on the iPhone because you are not authorized for it on this computer. To authorize this computer for items purchased from the iTunes storem, choose Store > Authorize this computer. "

So I went ahead and did what the message said and this is the message I get after I try to authorize: " this computer is already authorized. Including this one, you have authorized one computer of your available 5."

So its telling me to authorize my account on this computer but yet its already authorized! I'm really fustrated. I just updated my computer software and the iphone soft ware, so maybe this is a bug in the new software?

Can someone please help me, cause this is really fustrating!

I've restarted itunes, I've restarted my phone, and I have restarted my computer and I still get the same problem!

iPhone 4, iOS 5

i'm still having the same problem as jason - all my apps and songs can sychronize just fine going in either direction from my phone to my macbook or back. my earlier tv episodes can, too. but my recently downloaded tv eps cannot be synch'd FROM my macbook TO my phone. they can be downloaded directly to the phone if i'm on a wifi connection and i'm willing to wait forever. jason's suspicions about the migration assistant might be right because i did use it to move my files, including my library, from another mac. are there any other support threads which are more specific to this problem? for people who didn't have the same apple id in both places, fixing that solved their problem. but that's not my problem - i've got identical id's on both, and i can sync anything except recently downloaded tv shows. are there any log files i can look at for more helpful error msgs or clues?

I tried a few of the suggestions on here but still had the same problem. Instead of hitting 'Authorize this computer' from the pop up prompt:

1. Store

2. Authorize this computer.

I think I may have got a couple of prompts to answer after this (sorry, don't recall as I had tried so many things at this point) but all my apps are now synching from my Ipad.

I have had the same issue and have tried several of the suggestions to no avail. The person who explained the change in format of the Apple IDs is right, and for many folks who have this problem just adding the "@me.com" or "@ mac.com" to the Apple ID at sign-in will fix it. In my case, I unknowingly had TWO Apple IDs, one WITHOUT the complete email address and one WITH it.

Go to the Settings on your mobile device and scroll way down to Store & see what your Apple ID is registered as. Then go back to your main computer and in the App Store menu scroll to "view my account" and you can see if the Apple ID matches what your mobile devices have. Sign in using the same Apple ID and your sync problems should be resolved.

I can't access half my music because iTunes says I "must authorize this compter to play songs purchased with XXX@earhtlink.net account." That account has been closed for 5 years. I no longer have the password, etc. and in fact, itunes can't find any account with that name.

I've tried all the fixes given here.

Everything worked fine until I installed Lion...

Any ideas?

Did you creae a new iTunes account?

Or did you update it with your new email address?

I created a new account (more than 5 years ago). Itunes recognizes it and my Mac, etc are all authorized with that account. Problem is iTunes can't even find an account using the old email address so all attempts to reset or send me a new password for it fail. Same error is ahppening with certain Apps on my iPhone and iPad.

I've had my Mac for more than a year and this problem started after the Genius Bar installed Lion for me.

Hi. I had the same problem and reset the Ipad, authorized the pc, deauthorized it and nothing worked. Finally I went to My Ipad Settings, click on Store and then click on Apps ( automatic downloads) and turn it on. Then I went to Itunes ( with your ipad plugged) click on yout ur ipad name under devices on left column, do a right and left click and click on transfer purchases. Now is transfering all the apps that Itunes didnt recognized. Guess the whole trick was on turning on the automatic downloads.

Hope it works, it did for me! 🙂

I have a solution, but only for Windows users:

1) Open the start menu and open "run"

2)Type in : C:\ProgramData\Apple Computer\iTunes

3)In this folder, there should be a file called "SC Info"

4)Delete this file and then restart your computer

5)Open iTunes and sync your device, it will ask for authorisation again

6)Put in your email and password, and your device should sync, and it wont ask for authorisation again!

Like if you have Mac OSX, and then i will look into the problem for you mac users

🙂 🙂 🙂

The windows users solution didnt work. It says that it is not located. i have the same exact problem, half of my apps sync onto iphone and rest dont. The apps that do sync are free or downloaded from instaullous. And the other half are mostly free and few from installous. I dont get it. My computer is authorized. All apps sync onto my actual iphone, but half of them wont sync onto the new iphone i have. Both are 3gs, old 16gb and new 32gb. all apps are compatible with ios 4 and above. My old one is running on ios 5.1 and new is running on ios 5.0.1.

It is so annoying.

Let me know if someone has got a solution pls asap.

Thank You
