Siri and Accents?

My Siri does not understand anything I say. I have an Indian accent but most other voice recognition softwares work well with me. Is it Siri or is it me? A big dissapointment as I bought an IPhone 4S to use that extensively!!

I have been in UK for past 4 years and have a nutral accent. I have seen this NDTV video where a guy talks in normal indian accent and siri works fine. I have tried both UK and US language selection, but Siri some times doesnt get when ask it to remind me when I leave work etc.

It does other stuff life set an alarm. I some times stree on some words which is normal in Scotland. Now I dont know why, but I think siri listens to my words and also takes in your breathing sounds and makes up some **** words.

I havent tried the headset yet. May be I will give it a try wit the Headset.

Plus its sad that in UK siri cant search for any business or hotels. I dont know why apple always seems to release stuff incomplete.

yeah with me also same .. i actually work for technical support no one have any problem understand me .. but siri can understand me in few words .. like simple things time , weather, unbrella & .. like simple stuff .. but real problem starts with locating places . and navigating .. i think it wont work 100% with indian accent .. mainly with ask siri to reply freind . via sms or email.. getting e-mail address its really hard.. and seaching contacts in phone is reallyhard time i think better stick to iphone 4 ......................

I used iphone 4s for 2 months and then still having battery issues plus siri being no use, I decided to go with Samsung galaxy s2 white. My service providers (Three UK) really helpful and did do the swap for the phone without any issues.

Now having used the samung galaxy s2 for a few days, I can tell that ios 5 and siri are some features copied from andriod market and samsung s2.

The voice talk in samsung agalxy s2 works far far better in recognizing your voice and has never made a mistalke yet in understanding what i say, plus it doent haveing to go usrfing around the world like siri does when it says let me think.

And all the features and modification you can do with samsung widgets is great. Apple looks like its trying to copy andriod os, but its that successful.

1) Siri is a copy of samsung voice with some silly addded features

2) itunes wifi sync is a copy of kies which samsung launched, plus kies works better because u dont need to download a software for it, kies in samsung phone will give you a unique address to type based on the wifi network you are connected to, and just type this address on a browser, off you start uploading and downloading software to your phone and all songs.

3) Andriod market allows you to download apps on the market and apps will be downloaded directly to your phone.

4) Phone is safter thinner and better sized screen than Iphone 4s.

5) and you HSPA + (so called 4G)

So with this note I off the Apple forum for good.

Thank you

I'm glad I'm not the only one! I've got a Scottish accent and speak very clearly and am easily understandable by all English speakers. The problem I have is that Scottish vowels are very different from English ones. Through testing with friends it works quite well with English accents. I guess we really need a dictation calibration for non-south east English accents - for UK users anyway!

Wouldn't it be great if there was an option to type in a word and then Siri asked you to say the word, and then remembered your pronunciation of that word for future use? The one thing that really frustrates me is the lack of facility to train Siri. If you can't correct the **** thing when it misunderstands you, then how can it possibly EVER learn your voice?

Here, English with an accent from Argentina:

- "Which is the next game of the New York Knicks?"...

Siri replies: Would you like me to search the web for "meaning of the new mix"?...

I ask:

- "New York Knicks last score"...

Siri replies "I don't understand 'Who needs to Natko'"

- "Review for Oblivion"

Siri: - Review for Pontblyddyn?"

- "Is there any good restaurant in the area?"

Siri: "Is England restaurant near me?"... "I don't have an address for Quingdao restaurant".

- "Is Argentina playing this week?"

Siri: "Urgent enquiries with..." Do you want me to search the web?

In Spanish it understands me more, but here it comes the ridiculous part: IT DOESN'T UNDERSTAND ENGLISH!

So, go ask for restaurants or movies... "Horario de la película ARGO" (movie showtimes) ... Siri: "ARCO?" Me: "Stand Up Guys"... Siri:"Estandartes"?

So... it never ends...
