Sim Card Failure No Sim with iPhone 4S Anyone Else?

Got the new 32GB iPhone 4S today from AT&T, activated the phone was working all morning, I started experimenting with Siri and a couple minutes later the phone was hotter than usual and I get Sim Card failure, and Bad SIM messages. The phone now only says No Sim. I get home take out the SIM card and put it in my previous iPhone 4 and it works just fine. I then put in a blank micro SIM into the new iPhone 4S, but it still says NO SIM. Thinking the SIM reader got fried some how already.

Anyone else have this problem maybe a bad batch out there, or I just got an unlucky lemon?

I made an appointment for the genius bar tomorrow, but I seriously doubt they will have replacement stock of the 4S already. Guess I will find out what my next course of action will be tomorrow trying to get a replacement since new orders are taking 30 days to ship I am afraid I will have to wait awhile to enjoy the new features of my already paid for phone 😟

pluck007: I am glad that you got your phone replaced and I'm happy that it's now working for you. since you are also in Poland, can you tell me whether the phone you purchased was bought through T mobile PL or did you buy it from Apple in Poland or somewhere outside of Poland? And most importantly: how come you got it replaced so fast, considering that there is no Apple Store in Poland (I mean the physical store). thanks. My phone was originally bought in London and I just gave it back to Apple here in PL via Cortland... they told me I'd have to wait 21 days :-(((

Guys, I don't get Invalid Simcard message anymore, but I still do loose network, but you know what, it happens only when I am on using my data network. I've spend last 1,5 days at home and was always on wifi and didn't have any problems. Today I went out to the grocery store and lost signal for 20 mins till I took the simcard out and put it back. I think it's a trend. last time I've lost connection was outside the house as well.. So I still have hopes it's a software issue and will be solved with the next update. Fingers crossed..

BTW, I've call Apple Care yesterday and they said, there is no solution for this issue yet... 😟

Update from my side:

About "No service":

Left phone for night, in the morning got "No SIM" message. Rebooted phone, it found operator. As I can see, while I get service I can recieve calls, it's great. Sometimes if somebody calls me - I can reply. After conversation - no network again. But every time when I try to call by myself I can't even cancel a call - I lose network and its Searching for 1-2 minutes. I don't know what exactly I did, but now my iPhone acts like a phone for 20%, kind of good news.

About battery:

I have disabled 3G, location services, wifi all stuff and with 100% battery before sleep now i've got 66%. Used for 1 hour and 9 hours of waiting (I was reading a book on min brightness)

Well after switching Cellular data off there is no 3G icon near operator.

By the way very weird thing - after night in morning i get "No sim" message, during day it's most time in Searching and No service state and at evening I almost dont have "No service" problem.

This problem needs to be fixed ASAP, but as I can see you, guys, have it for one and a hald month. How much more time will it take? I feel very upset because of this.

I'm finding this unbelieveable! I've had been a Blackberry user for years and I finally made the switch a few weeks ago. For the first few weeks, I was pretty pleased. Then, about 36 hours ago -- the "NO SERVICE" message appeared. In the last 36 hours I have reset the network settings at least a dozen times. Most of the time service comes back, but only for a short period. Didn't they properly test this phone before release?? If they tested it properly, wouldn't they have noticed this problem?? Don't they know that so many of us rely on our phone for business communication AND WE NEED THEM TO WORK!!

I am afraid, it will not help. I use 4s quite a while. With 5.0 I had only bettery drain problem. During night loose approx 25% of bettery. After upgrading to 5.0.1 I basically lost my phone as tool for business. My iPhone loose network connection ten times per day. I have never had such bad situation with connection on any phone. I still hope it is software problem. What I have done so far:

1. Change micro sim 3 time. Helps with new one for about 10 hours. Then sim failure problem arise again.

2. Cut micro from normal size sim card. Helps for 10 hours.

3. Switch off Siri, iCloud, 3G, location services. Did not help at all

4. Sim pin deactivated from the beginning

yes connect it without sim and then restore the fone.

disconnect it frm itunes after getting msg dat phone is restarting and it will show in itunes

At activation only wen it will ask for sim then only insert ur sim click on try again. it will serach for ur sim and u will get the signal.

For sim faliure u hav to change the Carrier as for me 2 sims frm same carrier havent worked.

I've had this sort of problem intermittently over the years (I've owned 2G, 3GS, 4) and each time that has happened it is just a matter of popping out the sim and cleaning up the metal contact surfaces. Though, toward the end of the life of my 2G even that would not do it. But if you looked at the SIM card, it was really scarred up. So constantly removing and re-inserted could have its ill effects in the long run.
