Sim Card Failure No Sim with iPhone 4S Anyone Else?

Got the new 32GB iPhone 4S today from AT&T, activated the phone was working all morning, I started experimenting with Siri and a couple minutes later the phone was hotter than usual and I get Sim Card failure, and Bad SIM messages. The phone now only says No Sim. I get home take out the SIM card and put it in my previous iPhone 4 and it works just fine. I then put in a blank micro SIM into the new iPhone 4S, but it still says NO SIM. Thinking the SIM reader got fried some how already.

Anyone else have this problem maybe a bad batch out there, or I just got an unlucky lemon?

I made an appointment for the genius bar tomorrow, but I seriously doubt they will have replacement stock of the 4S already. Guess I will find out what my next course of action will be tomorrow trying to get a replacement since new orders are taking 30 days to ship I am afraid I will have to wait awhile to enjoy the new features of my already paid for phone 😟

@Sandykt. I agree! I think it may be a software or hardware issue. I am not convinced the old sim card answer is right, especially as we have all had no problems with using them in the 4. Perhaps we should start calling the issue SIMGATE!!! Very frustrating, especially having shelled out £600. I do not have an Apple store anywhere near me, so will have to phone the customer support team again tomorrow to see if they have any updates on this. BTW, has anyone found out if and when SIRI will be as functional in the UK, as in the USA? And if we will be able to change the voice... I really do not like the bloke's voice.

@sopersan. We do not use CDMA in the UK. All service providers are on GSM (or at least all use sim cards) so your solution does not work for us. I am glad it is resolved for you.

So I just popped off the SIM and as I inserted it back I made sure that the sim card was flush and centered in the tray ( seems that the sim card is slightly thicker than the tray. So it might cause it to unseat. Anyway the phone worked again instantly. I'll post again if it goes back go the error, otherwise it hasn't gone back to "no sim". We shouldn't have to deal with this obviously... It is a **** brand new phone.

Update after: 14 hours I haven't gotten an error, seems to work fine.

Add me to the list. I activated on Friday. Saturday I would get an occasional "Invalid Sim" which would clear with a re-boot. It became more frequent this morning until I started to get a "No Sim".I have tried all of the suggested remedies but none of them are working. My AT&T store is closed on Sunday so I am without a phone until at least tomorrow. iPhone 4S 64GB.

After spending time in the Apple / AT&T 'the other company can help you' vortex, I took out the SIM while the phone was on, blew on it and 'inside' lightly, and then reinserted. After a minute of the phone showing 'No Service', I was back and activated. I'm not feeling exceptionally confident in my hardware after this, though. The Fonzi fix-it approach shouldn't be required for such a high-end device.

This was after I was told by multiple people that the ONLY solution was for me to go to one of their physical stores. Top notch. getting back on the network allowed me to get the AT&T test texts and a message giving me the Apple Care 800#. Black 4s 32 GB.

Update from an AT&T customer whose phone is working after getting a new SIM card.

AppleCare acknowledged receiving a number of calls about SIM card problems and patched me through to a senior specialist who asked me to go to an AT&T store for a new card so that we could rule a faulty card in or out.

The nearest ATT store was out of cards and said I wasn't the first new activation to come in seeking help with this issue. The second storeto visited said they hadn't heard of the problem. They replaced the card and it worked.

That was nearly three hours ago. I'm far from confident that the problem won't resurface -- likely at precisely the wrong time. Will be interesting to see whether any of the blogs or other media pick up on this. As of this morning, none had.

I'm having the same issue; I received a white 32GB from AT&T in te mail, activated and promptly Saturday morning there was the invalid SIM; did a reset...all well until today, when I reset 5 times with no luck.

Read this post, popped it out, blew it aka Nintendo Style, reinserted, fine for 4 hours....

On a call, SiM disappeared and had to pop out and reset (no more blowing my phone)...

Is te consensus AT&T And VZW shipped dud SIM cards or is it the contacts in the phone?

I too am having major issues with the sim card.

Has anyone noticed that this is happening and the right side of the phone getting incredibly hot? I have only noticed this SIM Card Failure issue after using my phone to do video chat, or after playing a little Angry Birds, or doing something a bit intensive. The SIM card slot is definitley hotter to the touch than the rest of the phone.

I'm on Sprint currently, and I'll have 3G, use Angry Birds, then boom, I'm down to the dreaded "circle" instead of the 3G on my status bar. Ever since the second sim failure I had, I have not been able to use 3G at all. And I'm getting one bar of service on the low-speed network. Almost seems like my antenna's just fried or something.
