Sim Card Failure No Sim with iPhone 4S Anyone Else?

Got the new 32GB iPhone 4S today from AT&T, activated the phone was working all morning, I started experimenting with Siri and a couple minutes later the phone was hotter than usual and I get Sim Card failure, and Bad SIM messages. The phone now only says No Sim. I get home take out the SIM card and put it in my previous iPhone 4 and it works just fine. I then put in a blank micro SIM into the new iPhone 4S, but it still says NO SIM. Thinking the SIM reader got fried some how already.

Anyone else have this problem maybe a bad batch out there, or I just got an unlucky lemon?

I made an appointment for the genius bar tomorrow, but I seriously doubt they will have replacement stock of the 4S already. Guess I will find out what my next course of action will be tomorrow trying to get a replacement since new orders are taking 30 days to ship I am afraid I will have to wait awhile to enjoy the new features of my already paid for phone 😟

Here the same SIM problem.

I've got iPhone 4S since November 2011. Everything right until January 2012. Symptomes: Every day in the morning the message "Invalid SIM". After restart all OK. In the end of the month I got several messages a day: "no sim installed", "Without network". Other times the network indicator was strong but in real i was nor connect to the network. I've changed the micro-SIM 2 times but nothing was solved. I went to the operator that sold me the iphone, in Portugal, and now i'm waiting for a "repair" or a new iphone. Meanwile i have to wait 2 or 3 weeks.

It's impressive that the called by apple "the best iphone ever" has this problem for so many time unsolved. This is an high-end phone. It should not have ... a SIM problem and a battery problem. Plese Apple, shame on you. Solve the problem.

If the solution is iOS 5.1, please put it there ASAP.

The saga continues....

iPhone number 5 failed. This was supposed to be "a new shipment that hasn't been seeing this problem". Well, I saw it again yesterday morning after disconnecting it from my MacBook AIr. I was able to capture the screen showing the warning with a digi cam so I can prove the problem exists, so I guess I'll have to head down to the Apple store for another replacement.

Should I even bother burning the gas to go get another phone?

Five replacements.....five failures.

I am really tired of dealing with this.

I really feel sorry for those of you out there that do not have access to a store where you can get a replacement, but from what I have been dealing with, what they replace your failing phone with will be no better than what you presently have.

Unbelievable......

There is no need for a replacement. The PROBLEM IS just from software and the only solution is the 5.1 beta 3. Everyone with a iphone 4s with IOS 5.0 have no problems until they "upgrade" as Apple dictates. Now, it would be just nice if Apple lets the user go back to previous versions of his OS but they cant afford to be wrong. (that way of thinking it`s soooo windows, thats not thinking different!)

Hi Pat,

First, I want you to know that I am very sorry that you have had all the difficulties with your iPhone. Of course, my feelings don't help you at all. Still, I am sure there are many posters here, like myself, who can empathize with your situation.

I am sure you have read many posts in this forum looking for solutions. When you have, I am sure you have noticed that I, and quite a few others, have posted that our iPhone 4S's (2 of them in my case) went from having Big Time SIM problems to none with the installation of the iOS 5.1 beta 3 software/firmware. In my personal case, it was a striking change and immediate after installation. I think my experience, and the experience of others, indicates that a fair amount of the SIM problems (not ALL as SIM issues can be generated by multiple causes even without a software "bug") are fixed by the 5.1 beta 3 version of the software. It is Feb. 19th as I write this. I certainly have no insider information, but I am betting we will be seeing iOS 5.1 being released in early March. When we do I think a good percentage of these SIM problems will be solved.

If you have been reluctant to install the beta software I totally understand. It is so close to early March that I don't know if I would bother installing it myself now. I also don't want to appear to be a Pollyanna about this, but I believe you should allow yourself a modicum of optimism that your long, frustrating SIM journey may be over in a couple weeks.

For all the comradery that shared misery generates, I am sure we are all looking to the day when this discussion forum can be put to rest.

My money is on March 7th.

Best, Mr. Luigi

Yes, I do wish that there was someway I could 'retro-fit' my phone with the original firmware that came on it (IOS5.0), but as I understand it, that is not an option. I will be the first to admit that my strong suit is NOT having the knowledge on how to download the beta 3 proggie that is supposed to "cure" this SIM problem...and I am just afraid of doing something wrong and winding up with a very expensive paperweight. :-)

Mr. Luigi!

Thank you for your response too. I think I will just cancel my appt. @ the Apple Store this afternoon. Why drive that far, receive another phone that most likely will still be exhibiting this SIM card problem? Then come home and have all the hassles of setting up everything again..the last couple of times we did not use the restore option, thinking we may be 'restoring' something bad, so a simple synch was done but still lots of data was not synchced.

I think I'll just wait for the update to come out, wait a few days for others to beta test it, then download it and give it a try.

And thanks to all that have posted to this topic, giving many of us less 'tech savvy' individuals something to go on.

March 7th??? We can only hope, Mr Luigi! :-)

Hi, after following this thread since the beginning now I am totally worried. Can someone from Apple give me a confident level whether the "sim failure" phenomenon is caused by Software or Hardware? If iOS 5.1 is the solution I am happy to wait but if it is a hardware issue then this is really a nightmare as I bought my iPhone 4S in Australia but I live in Indonesia. Mr. Cook (Tim Cook) please do quick action.

Hi,

My iPhone 4S sim card problems seem to be solved. My guess as to what happened is:

iPhone 4 S early batch.

iOS update

Corrupts SIM card

Network provider sends me new SIM card. My original iPhone 4S corrupts that as well.

Apple replace my iPhone 4S but put corrupted SIM card into the new iPhone so probelms continue.

Network provider sends me another new SIM card.

No more SIM card problems :-)

After following this discussion and had also tried using 5.1 beta... my personal conlcusion is that this problem is both hardware and software... After almost two months from the time I got my 4S from my service provider, I finally decided to bring it back to my carrier for assessment and possible replacement. After 2 weeks, I got a new iphone 4s and for 24 hours now it is perfect. I would presume that there was also a hardware issue with my first unit. Trying 5.1 with my previous unit also worked perfectly but of course it is still a beta release so i am not sure if it will be a permanent solution.

To all others with this experience, just ask for a replcement since most of us i am sure are still in warranty. Apple had a good record on customer aftersales service. THey had my unit replced through my service carrier Globe Telecom. Just had to be patient also since in the Philippines we dont have an apple store that can replce units immediately.

As of now with my phone working well... i guess it is worth the wait.... I am still an iphone avid since its features answer all my needs being a mac user for almost 8 years now....

My appreciation with the people from Globe Telecom in Trinoma Store for your assistance....

To all again, just have your iphone 4S with this problem be replaced.... Mabuhay
