Sim Card Failure No Sim with iPhone 4S Anyone Else?

Got the new 32GB iPhone 4S today from AT&T, activated the phone was working all morning, I started experimenting with Siri and a couple minutes later the phone was hotter than usual and I get Sim Card failure, and Bad SIM messages. The phone now only says No Sim. I get home take out the SIM card and put it in my previous iPhone 4 and it works just fine. I then put in a blank micro SIM into the new iPhone 4S, but it still says NO SIM. Thinking the SIM reader got fried some how already.

Anyone else have this problem maybe a bad batch out there, or I just got an unlucky lemon?

I made an appointment for the genius bar tomorrow, but I seriously doubt they will have replacement stock of the 4S already. Guess I will find out what my next course of action will be tomorrow trying to get a replacement since new orders are taking 30 days to ship I am afraid I will have to wait awhile to enjoy the new features of my already paid for phone 😟

I have tried everything under the sun. Soft restarts (several times a day - bordering on insanity), full backup & restore from backups, restore as new, SIM swaps, EVERYTHING!!! And I'm already on the most up-to-date version 5.1. I'm at my wits end now. This is absolutely ridiculous!! It shouldn't even be happening!! My phone is only 4 months old. Apple needs to sort themselves out. You can't keep doing this to your customers.

If anyone has any other ideas about what to do - I would greatly appreciate some advice.

I'm in the UK and on Orange. I spoke to Orange and they said this is a well known issue to Apple and that their advice is to do a full restore as new which is meant to solve the problem for about 90% of the people who have it. Well, it would appear I'm in the 10% for whom this doesn't work. Any other suggestions???

Hi voila_72,

Wow! I can see why you must be going crazy. Before I suggest strongly that you return your iPhone to Apple for a replacement, I have one question. When you said "Sim Swaps" did you mean...Orange replaced my Sim Card with a BRAND NEW 128K Sim Card? If the answer to this question is, "yes" then take (send) your phone back to Apple, explain all the steps you have taken to return your iPhone to good health, and ask (demand) a new replacement phone. Considering all your efforts, you should have no problems getting a replacement phone. However, when you swapped Sim Cards you did NOT replace it with a New 128K Sim Card from Orange, then ask Orange for a New, 128K card. Install it and see if that solves the problem. Take heart, others have been in your same shoes and most have found relief via installing a new 128K sim Card, or replacing the phone with a new one. If you end up getting a new phone, don't use your current Sim Card!!!

Let us know how things turn out. Mr. Luigi

Thanks Mr. Luigi.

I'm just waiting for Orange to send me a new sim. I've read all these posts on here (all 87 pages) but I don't know what a 128k sim card would look like. How will I be able to tell if that's what they've sent me? Does it look different? Does it say 128k on it anywhere? I don't trust that just because they tell me thats going to happen it will happen. I'm about 3 sec from losing my mind with this ridiculousness.

Thanks to all for your suggestions. I'm just dumbfounded that Apple isn't even acknowledging us on this issue. I think I'm going to write a letter to Watchdog (its a consumer help show here in the UK that gets things done).

I'll keep you posted.

Thanks,

Voula

I am waiting for calls urgently and this iphone is giving out so much trouble!!

Hi juanitaooi,

I had the same problem for about 2 weeks. I was driving myself insane trying to do everything that people have been posting here & nothing was working. Last week I rung up Orange & asked for a new SIM card and today I've got it. I installed it at lunch time today and as of right now (22:04) there has been no more INVALID SIM error message. Knock on wood - so far so good. I would recommend that you ring up O2 and get them to send you a new micro SIM card. It should do the trick.

Good luck & let us know how you get on.

Cheers
