Saving an Email as RTFD looses attachments

I upgraded from Snow Leo to Lion. Now when I save (Shift-CMD-S) an Email that contains attachments such as PDF files, the resulting RTFD file does NOT contain these attachments. They just get lost. I just found out accidentially that I had lost a number of important files this way!

Saving Emails including attachments did work perfectly under Snow Leo and all it's predecessors, but as it seems, not in Lion.

I'd say that's a huge bug! Or am I doing something wrong?

Yes, that would be a workaround.

However, if the attachments would be PDF documents, you'd have to do that copy-and-paste-to-Pages thing to create a document with the contents of the E-Mail, create a PDF from that (for archive purposes I use to save all documents as PDFs, as I guess this might be the one and only format still working like twenty years from now ...), and then add the PDF attachment(s) that are included with the e-mail by dragging-and-dropping this into the previously created PDF file. A cumbersome procedure.

I remember that saving E-Mails as RTFD or PDF used to be working perfectly, but that was way before I started this thread in - huh, really!!?? - 2011!

And yes, I did send feedback to Apple on this. Obviously, to no avail. 😟

I just tried Pages '09 4.3 and this appears to work better with tables, some of which do not format correctly with Pages 5.0.

If the PDF is a single page, it is converted to a graphic and inserted inline. If it is a multipage PDF, only the first page is inserted.

20 years from now, we'll still be able to open rtf's and likely other format. I can still open my Wordstar documents from the early 1980's using various programs. Also, clouds like GoogleDocs are pure HTML and automatically upgrade as technology advances.

However, the ideal would be if multipage PDF's could be inserted into the target file in their entirety. In my case, I am converting to GoogleDocs and saving the PDF's separately.
