iPhone 4S Noises?

On the back of the iPhone 4S near the camera, noises are heard. When I put the device on the table, these noises can be heard also. When Iphone 4 was not so. Might be damaged mechanically something?

I can hear the rattle around the camera area as well but only when I tap on the back panel several times. When I shake the phone the rattle is not audible.

My main concern is the vibrating mechanism, when the phone is laying flat it is working fine (just like my iPhone 4) but as soon as I pick it up the vibrations are transferred onto the back glass panel making it sound distorted. It definitely wasnt the case with my iPhone 4. Any one else experiencing similar issues? (Set an alarm and let it go for a while while holding your phone)

Cheers

I'm also having this issue with the rattling! I thought I was being fussy but its making the voice calls tinny and when you tap on the top half of the phone it sounds like something is loose inside the phone. I rang ornage up and they said they'd replace it but the second 4s they sent also has the problem, might need a factory recall on these I think

You all do realize that EVERY iPhone since the 3GS has made this noise right? It's the autofocus lens assembly that is free-floating when not in use. Its completely and 100% normal. My 3GS did it, my 4 did it, and my 4S does it too. I have plenty of friends and family with iPhones that have the exact noise too. Once again, its perfectly normal.

My 32Gb 4S had the camera rattle (btw none of my old 3GS, cheap work camera, £170 personal point & shoot, £400 DSLR nor £300 SD video camera rattle but the £600 iphone does) but the lady at the genius bar said it's the shutter and is 'normal'.

The greater issue for me was the vibration element which sounded as though components were loose unless you held the bottom right corner.

The lady at the genius bar took the handset out back for a check and came back saying it made a funny noise but was 'within tolerances'. As an act of goodwill they replaced the handset. They could not guarantee it would not do the same again as it was 'within tolerances'. No mobile phone I have ever owned has sounded like this and from my my work related technical knowledge I am fully aware that off spec vibration can damage equipment over time.

This new handset has a louder camera rattle, similar vibration rattle and what can only be described as a spring like vibration feel if the phone gets tapped whilst in my pocket.

Bearing in mind this is sold as a £600 high end machine I am extremely disappointed with the cheap feel and sound of the internal elements and am concerned about the risk of damage over time.

I had two years of happiness I from my 3GS and now do not have the same feelings towards the 4S nor, I'm sad to say, Apple.

The rattle is normal. Even high end professional cameras have the rattle which is part of the steadishot system. When you engage the camera, it will disappear while the camera is being used. Static is, of course, not normal! Would be good of Apple to let the end user know that it is normal and alert folks to this fact.

Communication does not appear to be something they are terribly good at unless it is part of the marketing plan.

Hello to all !

I upgraded my 3G 16G for this 4S 64G the day it came out (14th of october) not even 3 weeks ago. The new iphone was working super nice until 2 days ago when this rattle noise appeared in the camera area. I was very surprised to see how many other people having this same issue. It's interesting also to see how many totally illogical explanations people are saying.. Technologically possible explanation could be the lenses in the camera making this noise but then it should do it from day one what's not my case. In my case when the phone is on vibration it becomes a not-silent phone because of the high level of rattle.. so what's the point ? I'm going back to the iStore tonight as i don't accept an anoying rattle from a that expensive cell phone... to be followed..
