iPhone 4 low earpiece volume after ios 5 upgrade

Hi all.

I have upgraded to ios 5 and biggest gripe i have withit that now my iphone 4 earpiece volume is now lower in volume but further more the quality of sound is worse... Sounds like a low end earpiece speaker the voice that comes through is weak and with lack of natural bass basically nothing like it was on 4.3.1 i had before.

Anyonr noticed deteriorated quality after the upgrade?

Regards S.

^ Hi, I also have an issue with low volume level via the headphones. After upgrading my iPhone 4 to iOS 5, I found the volume thru the headphones to be about two steps lower than before. The sound quality was perfect though...

I have not tried a restore yet, but meanwhile came across a fix: With the music playing, I launched the Voice Memos App. This faded out the music. Then without actually recording anything, I went back to the Music App and restarted the music. This restored the volume to its normal level, same as it was in iOS 4.2.3. Maybe you could try the same and see if it works for you...

If anyone else is having volume issues after upg to iOS 5; or has found a solution, please post here... Thanks!

Thanks Ailith. It WORKED!!! Unbelievable! 🙂

While making a test call to my voice mail I switched my ring/silent switch to "silent". Then I switched it back again to "ring".

The phone now works perfectly having the ring/silent switch in either position.

I can here now the other party loud and clear.

I wish someone at Apple’s support team follows up on these posts.

I’m hopping this workaround works until Apple issues an update to correct this bug.

I posted on the previous page . . .

About a week ago, my internal iPhone speaker simply started working on its own.

I am convinced it is not a hardware issue, though it does mimic a bad headphone jack internal/external switch problem as in my case, when the internal speaker stopped working for phone operation, the volume was non-existent.

I hope that, whatever the bug is, the Apple folks will eventually squash it.

Hi

This issue is making me really crazy. I Have an Ipod Touch 4G that I use to play music on my car connected to my pioneer receiver with the USB cable. Since I upgraded to IOS 5.1.1 I noticed the change on my cars sound. I started to compare with the other sources of the receiver (SD Card, Tuner, etc) and BINGO … the sound coming from my Ipod is substantially lower. I´ve tried the different workarounds and some of them work some times. I also have an Ipod Touch 3G and it works great (Sound Quality and power) running IOS 4.2.1. So the problem is with the IOS 5, not a hardware issue.

I've exchanged 2 handsets now which both develope the same issue, the ear peice volum starts to get so low you can barley hear anyone, I've tried all the tricks on hear on my latest handset but it appears its going to have to go back too.

The worry is that if a fix isnt found they will stop exchanging the handset after your years warrenty is up and then where do we stand ?

Solution Apple please

I had the same problem, my iphone 4 ear speaker stopped working. Thanks for the advice. Seemed to easy but it worked a treat. Thanks.

While making a test call to my voice mail I switched my ringer silence button (the rectangle button) TO SILENT and my ear speaker started working!!! I switched back from silent and the speaker still works I hope it works for everyone else too!!

I have had the same problem of really low music volume on my iPhone 4s. I even started to think I was losing my hearing. I have tried every bit of advice on here and nothing worked. But then I noticed that the volume was also really low on my iPad and an old iPhone 3GS. By chance, I just found a set of old iPhone headphones and tried those and the sound is sooooo much better. In my case, it seems to be the newer headphones with the pause/volume button on the wire that don't work (I tried 2 of those and had the same problem). So maybe different headphones might work for others.......Good luck

iPhone 4S - less than 4 months old. Earset volume during calls was unusably quiet, all other sounds (speaker, bluetooth, headphone out) work perfectly. I tried [Settings>General Settings>Reset>Reset All Settings] with minimal results, then took your advice and cleaned the earset mesh with a toothbrush and shop-vac and my earset volume is back up to normal volume. I worked on construction sites for months with my 3GS and never had the earset clog up on me... My 4S has lived in my pocket while I work a retail job and was already stopped up enough to prevent it from functioning properly. I'd hate to think this could be a simple design flaw after all the other things they did RIGHT with the 4S...
...

tl:dr - TO ANYONE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE EARSET ONLY, CLEAN THE MESH it made an unbelievable difference for me.
