iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

OK. You went 1 whole day, with almost 7 hours of usage, and you still have 5% battery left.

I think that this is pretty bad compared to iPhone 4!!!!

That would seem adequate for most users.

This does not seem adequate for most of users!! It is not even close to adequate! Just imagine in a year when the battery will be worn down that in the same situation the iPhone 4S will not last even a full day and one would have a fix phone from Apple named iPhone 4S!!!!

One should keep in mind that the battery wears down and in a year one will not get not even close to the same battery life as one gets one the phone is new!

I recently went from my home in AZ to TX; I was there for three weeks. I had fairly good battery life in AZ. I would get two days on the battery. I have a wi-fi computer at my desk and my iPhone sits at my desk 90% of the time. As soon as we left on the 2 day driving trip, I noticed that the battery life was much less. It continued to be much less the entire time I was in TX. I was charging it two to three times a day. I was in a home that had no wi-fi. Once I returned home my battery went back to lasting two days before it needed charging; I feel certain that the wi-fi made the difference. Perhaps someone could test my theory and see if they get the same results.

Here have been many posts which report the same. It is known that iPhone 4S has issues (on GSM/UMTS networks) regarding to 3G network and if the 3G network coverage is not good enough or if the 3G network is "busy" still iPhone 4S will try again and again to connect to it (=more power drawn) instead of falling on 2G network which probably has better coverage in the same place! For now it looks like iPhone 4s on CDMA networks (e.g. Verizon, Sprint, etc.) is not affected by this issue as bad as the iPhone 4S on GSM/UMTS networks.

Here is more about this issue:

What is your carrier? Is it AT&T or T-Mobile?

@Nointune

AT&T is a GSM/UMTS carrier! Anyway, do not blame your carrier! It is the fault of iPhone 4S which does not know to behave on 3G networks especially on GSM/UMTS networks! Other phones (which are not iPhone 4S) are working fine on 3G GSM/UMTS networks!

Apple should fix this but let's see what future holds for us!

P.S. Maybe complaining to AT&T about it, would help AT&T to push Apple to solve the battery issue and/or 3G issues with iPhone 4S one way or another!

Much depends on what you were doing, and where. If you were playing 3d games while wandering around in a remote area where 3G service is available, but with minimal signal strength, while using GPS to find your way, then your battery power would erode quite quickly. Most smartphone manuals recommend against doing this kind of thing unless you can plug into a car charger.

I strongly doubt your 80% are having battery problems statement. As for the 'static' (which is probably arcing) problem, I do NOT have it. People with that problem see their phone getting hot, and have lousy battery life. I see neither.

And again, I NEVER said I charge my phone all the time. I have been charging once a day for the last couple of weeks, but skipped the recharge yesterday just to see how long it will run. Will report on how that went later.

Legal action may cause Apple management to put more pressure on their technical people, but that only slows down a project, in my experience (38 years in IT).

Also I was doing some texting while traveling, but little else. When in TX I wasn't doing a lot of anything -- on the phone maybe 20-30 minutes a day. Did some texting through iMessage. I don't think it had much to do with what I was doing. The battery would drain quickly when it was just in standby mode. I had double the data use from what I normally use in AZ because I wasn't using wi-fi.

You don't say where in TX you were. It's a big state. I live in the DFW area, and wi-fi is available many places, and the area is generally well-covered by 3G service (ATT). If you were in remote areas of the state, I can easily understand why you had more battery drain. I have not visited my sister in law lately, but she lives in a area where ATT doesn't have good signal strength, and my old phone often discharged there in less than a day. I suspect the 4S wouldn't do much better.

I strongly doubt that more than a very small percent of users have the static noise issue, but I agree it is a hardware issue.

You may doubt but this will not change the truth. The truth is based on your opinion! Here on Apple forums are plenty of posts where people are at their 5th iPhone 4s and still have the static noise issue! They had it on every single iPhone 4S which they had. The only difference is that on some iPhone 4S the static noise is stronger than on the others! Also the the younger one is the higher is the probability that one will hear the static noise because the hearing in young people is much better!

I suggest that share your opinion about the static noise issue also here:

To me it looks like one here has a very nice and good iPhone 4S and now the one does not believe when others report issues with iPhone 4S!!!!
