iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I have one question about the battery life of my iPhone 4S: at this moment I am at 73% and I have the following stats:

Usage Time is 1 hour and 40 minutes

Stanby Time is 15 hours and 57 minutes

Is this a normal battery life for the iPhone 4S? Note that I used the phone to play a game only for 30 minutes and do some calls. The 3G, iCloud and Siri are turned off. During 9 hours I have lost 11% of the battery percentege. Is this normal?

This looks pretty good!

These (i.e. Cellular Data Off, and I guess Wifi is off too and probably you are in a 2G network) explains why you get so good battery life on your iPhone 4S.

Thanks, enx23. I didn't consider that. But still I don't believe that it has to do with 3G connection, as I was using my 4S without any issues for 4 weeks even while traveling and the problems only started after moving to iCloud.

There are plenty of iPhone 4s issues here for one to choose from:

- 3G network (probably it be even antenna issue)

- static noise which comes from the chipset MDM6610 which handles the 3G

- plenty of bugs in iOS 5.X.X

- plenty of bugs in Apps because of the iOS 5.X.X

- ...

Take a look to apple's features and calculation:

Standby 200h -> 100% / 200h = 0,5% per h

3G voice 8h -> 100% / 8h = 12,5% per h

2G voice 14h -> 100% / 14h = 7,14% per h

3G data 6h -> 100% / 6h = 16,6% per h

WiFi data 9h -> 100% / 9h = 11,1% per h

Video 10h -> 100% / 10 h = 10% per h

Audio 40h -> 100% / 40h = 2,5% per h

Example (let's say you had 1h 3G voice and 40 min Data on Wifi)

User active

12,5% * 1h = 12,5%

11,1% * (40/60)h = 11,1% * 0,66h =7,4%

Standby

0,5% * (15 + 57/60)h = 0,5% * 15,95h = 7,97%

Total % = 100% - 12,5% - 7,4% - 7,97% = 72,13%.

I would say your iphone is working as specified by apple.

I've just done an iTunes restore without backup. I've done the set-up procedure and left locations and siri off. I'm not installing any apps at all, or using anything for contacts, calendars or mail so there is nothing on it that can be deemed as corrupted. As soon as my battery has fully discharged I will do a full recharge and then see how the battery fairs over night in standby.

Fully charged my 4S last night after a full discharge. Took it off charge and put into Flight Mode before going to bed. Checked it this morning, 8 hours later, and it was on 99% - way, way better than previously. It was still reporting 45 mins of 'usage' even though it was in standby the whole time with no apps running.

I then charged it back to 100% and took it out of flight mode.

My stats right now:

Battery: 91%

Usage: 2hr 13m
Standby: 4hr 16m

Still reporting a lot of phantom usage there as I've not used it at all except to check the stats once or twice. Battery does look to be doing a little better though but time will tell! I've still not installed ANY apps or set up any contacts, calendars or mail - the phone is pretty much in a virgin state.

Judging by the above stats, I can at best hope to get roughly 40 hrs standby - remember I've not used the phone at all. This figure is still not at all acceptable!

Worth mentioning that right now it's on 2G (5 bars) - 3G is very patchy where I live.
