iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My 4S has now been running roughly 16 hours with WiFi sync turned off and the WiFi DNS set to 8.8.8.8 and the battery is down to 93 %. Usage says 16 minutes use and 16 hours standby. Before it would have been around 40% or less with usage at around 50% of the overall time. So, at least in my case, WiFi sync was the issue, even if some people say it only runs when the phone is plugged into a power source. Either it does in fact run when the phone is on battery power (by design) or there's a bug.

Don't make statements based only in your own assumptions.

If that was the case, then why would my battery last only for a day with Cellular Data turned on for only 5minutes?? In my case it has nothing to do with the 3G being turned on or off...

The Apple iPhone 4S Battery IOS 5.x Configuration Bug

Problem

Ever since the appearance of IOS 5.0 the iPhone 4S has been plagued by battery issues. Although Apple fixed most of these issues with IOS 5.0.1, there are still users out there experiencing the excessive battery drain on their newly purchased iPhones. The problem manifests itself by showing about 3 percent drainage per hour while idling. Typically the phone would lay idling during the night and show 30 percent battery drain in 10 hours. The only thing that was done to the phone was push email and bluetooth off.

Cause

iTunes and IOS have gone through a lot of updates since they became available. When the iphone is synced with iTunes or being backed up from an iPhone 4S save, the battery bug can manifest itself.
There is faulty behavior inside the syncing between the iPhone and iTunes ( Either iTunes on your pc/mac or iTunes in the cloud )

Solution

The solution to the iPhone 4S battery drainage bug is to properly reset the communication between the iPhone and iTunes.

1. Backup your iPhone using itunes or iTunes in the cloud.
2. Reset the Apple Mobile Device Service :
On a PC : Remove the Apple Mobile Device service and de-install iTunes and re-install it again.
On a Mac : you can't un-install iTunes because it is part of the Operating System. You can re-install it though, but before you do that you need to remove a file at /System/Library/Extensions/AppleMobileDevice.kext . Apple describes how to do this here.
3. Connect your iphone to iTunes and it should sync properly and your battery problems should be over.

Here's my 100% (It's actually 14mins usage with 6hrs standby and 2mins. Before it went to 99%)

Mail fetch to 30mins

Usage consists of

50% Music

25% Internet

15% Games

+ 4hrs total of phone call.

After paying for an expensive I Phone why would I have to turn anything off. We paid for a fully functioning and working phone. We where mislead by a huge corporation selling what they knew was a faulty product PERIOD...*** I have stated if you or I had done this or a small mom and pop company we would all go to jail. Even with autos you have Lemon Law and was to recoup your investment. They have no plans to fix this ....too busy wanting to come out with the 5.. The way they are handling this and have handling it is criminal..They should offer immediate buy backs and some type of reimbursement for all the time and trouble this device has caused.....

You may be right, I have no way to test though since my battery is behaving fine at this time. My last iPhone was fine though until I installed 5.0.1 with iTunes and after than chaos. That iPhone started turning itself on and off and having panic.plist in the log, so was replaced.

My new iPhone is 6 weeks newer than the the first, which was a week 40 64GB sim free 4S (UK) and after three charges with minimal usage, facebook, a few times a day, a few quick calls, and some light texting it lasted 3 Days with 6hours of useage. This was with wifi on and cellular data, but send diagnostics off raise to speak with Siri off and diagnostic location data and iAds off and push email off as well as local weather off since I use an app for that. I left it to see how it would behave and so far so good. I have no 3G in my area though. The phone was from a different factory, it did not have the sim bug my old one had where it would lose network with sim pin on or just loose the network even with the later 5.0.1 version.

On my new handset I updated to 5.0.1 (not the latest version) via wifi on the new handset it pulled the older version down for some reason. I do have a slightly loose home button, a tiny amount of movement but tbh since right now its working I can live with that. After charging if I leave it and don't use it for an hour (no sms received or calls of course) it shows 0 minutes usage unlike my old one that had a runaway process. I have no idea what changed from my last phone to this phone, so maybe it is the phones ability to talk to iTunes as my old one was updated on my iMac with an older version of iTunes, and so this phone has only ever connected with the latest version.

How do you know they have no plans to fix this? Apple have never been known to comment that much on bugs. Just because 5.1 beta's don't mention battery issues, it does not mean the fixes will not effect usage. If your phone does not work as it should you have time to take it back, like any other product. Its the hope they will fix it which means people cling onto the phones that don't work and then moan about it. I do agree though that Apple could be more vocal, but that's never happend before except for the iPhone 4 Antenna issue, and then Steve Jobs went into damage limitation mode, I do wonder what he would have done if he was still alive with this mess though. If the phone you buy does not work as advertised, take it back get a refund and get something else, just because you want an iPhone is not reason enough to keep a faulty handset, change it, see if the new one is any better, if not get a refund, otherwise we become victims of our own obsession with a smartphone brand.

First, do you leave all the lights on in your place of business 24/7? At home? Do you leave your car running, with the radio on, and the lights all on when you are asleep? Saying you should be able to turn on everything all the time is downright ludicrous. And Apple doesn't talk much about what they are doing, but they WILL fix this problem. Count on it.

is this below average battery life?

@SeaBoundRhino: From my own experience I'd say that's pretty much par for the course. Of course it depends on your phone's config, but in general roughly 2.5 days with light to medium usage seems reasonable.

No. In fact, it is better than most, and some would probably love to trade phones with you.

Much depends on how you used the phone, and for what you use it, and where you used it.

I really doubt that 25% of the users who have viewed this discussion have this problem as many of us have visited many times, and people who don't have a problem are also likely to be curious about what is going on.

In any case, there is almost certainly a very large number of people who do have a problem. Even if 200,000 users in the US and Canada are having battery issues, some number of them have easily identifiable hardware problems, and others may have SIM issues, or 3G issues. I suspect this is why Apple is taking so long to release 5.1 as they want to get a very clear picture of just what is going on, and do their best to fix it. And even 200,000 users aren't a very great percentage considering the total number of 4S sales in the US and Canada. Meanwhile, Europe and Asia seem to be much more excited over a problem with the GPS location problems they are having. How many 4S sales have there been, and how many people actually have some major issue? Only Apple knows at this point.

I am just happy I am not having either issue.
