iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Update: after the fix that I found, my 4S's battery is better than it was before the drain started (it was just like the iPhone 4's battery for about 4 weeks), and better than that of my iPhone 4. I am now at 45 h standby time.

For those who are new: Monday night I moved from MobileMe to iCloud. Tuesday afternoon I used Siri but she wouldn't connect to the server. Then, for the first time since moving to iCould I left the house and wifi. Then I noticed that my 4S was getting hot and using battery like crazy. This continued after returning to the house for the next days.

Assuming that the move to iCloud might be a reason I decided to delelte all MobileMe related apps (MobileMe Gallery and iDisk). However, I can't delete apps using the jiggle procedure - due to some other issue - and syncing with iTunes (unchecking apps and then syncing to iPhone in order to remove them) didn't work either. I assumed there must be a corrupt file somewhere and unchecked syncing of fotos, music, everything except the apps. Then I made an iTunes factory restore and then recovery from the latest backup. I was now able to sync and delete those apps. Since then - Thursday afternoon - my battery is back to normal, and as I can see now, even better. (By the way, the reason for the syncing issue was iToner, which I had used for ringtones. After installing back the ringtones from iToner, the syncing didn't work again and I had to do another factory restore.)

My 4S is still empty of fotos, music, videos and books. I'll start syncing them to the iPhone tomorrow and will watch whether this has an impact on battery capacity.

You really can't read, can you? How did you view this thread since it hit the 100k mark if you can't understand the meaning behind the letters? I DID NOT MAKE 40 minutes of calls, the phone generates activity (USAGE) on it's own and yes, the difference is drastic just by turning celldata off. At least with me. Stop behaving like a ***** in virtual freeland!

For your proof,AND A REFERENCE TO WHOEVER IS INTERESTED, here's a screenshot of my device today with over 1 day of standby and 1h 34m usage (which is NOT realistic, I have barely called and did NOT use the phone at all for the purpose of this test. I recon I have no more than 30-35 minutes of calls and NO other usage).

I agree when it's in standby something is draining battery, overnight my phone can easily drop by 30% with nothing but mail checking every 15 minutes, that's an awful amount of drain for a few emails.

My biggest problem is that Apple sold me a phone with Location services and various other features turned ON and now suggestions are to turn them all off, how ridiculous, defeats the purpose of even having the latest 4s with the latest ios5. Its like selling me a Ferrari and telling me to only drive it at 15 mph, how insanely ridiculous.

Now in my case, just to humor myself I have turned just about everything off and I have No improvement in battery life whatsoever. This afternoon I did the following:

- turned off location services

- turned off ask to join networks

- turned off screen auto brightness

- set screen brightness to 35%

Then

- fully charged to 100%

- turned phone fully off

- restarted phone

Since then I have done the following:

- browsed 5 pages on safari

- received 2 SMS/text messages and sent 1

- sent 3 whatsapp messages to one contact

Battery has drained to 85% with just those few little things, I have not even made one call.

What irritates me is some users who have 5.0.1 report improved battery life while others have very VERY poor battery life. Then I discovered there's different versions of ios5.0.1 each ending with a different firmware number, mine is 9A405 and I've seen users posting here with much higher firmware numbers but apple gives no way for us to download the later version of 5.0.1. Annoying yes, silly most certainly. Why not let ALL users have access to the latest firmware then we can actually compare apples with apples (excuse the pun)

I'm now also told I must wait until iTunes decides to check again, apparently on the 11th to see if apple will grace me and many others here with the latest firmware. It 's so annoying because this phone is not even 9 days old and performed like this since the iOS 5.0.1 update the day we setup the phones. I know this phone has the ability of good battery life but it seems there's buggy versions of firmware and others that fix it.

1%-1.5% drop is equal to 75-100 hours stand by. In iPhone 4s terms that good

Compared to the situation that people are facing on these threads it is good. But it still isn't as good as those stats, which is what some people on here are complaining about now!!!

I fail to understand why anyone gets excited about battery use that allows a full day of normal use without a recharge. I didn't but a smartphone to let it sit for several days without use, and expect it to be ready to use after a week sitting around. I bought it to use, and use always takes more battery power than sitting around, or at least it does in a properly functioning smartphone. Worrying about standby time over 24 hours is like arguing about how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.

Given that you have plenty of battery power for another couple of days at current drain, WHAT are you complaining about? We don't have a clear notion of exactly what you may have installed, and just what all your settings are, and just what things run internally, that count as 'usage'. I suspect that a lot of users would LOVE to trade phones with you.

Are your usage and time since last charge running pretty much close to eachother? Do you have more usage than you can justify? Did you get a new SIM card, or take one from an older phone? How is your 3G signal strength?

Your analogy about the car is interesting. If you drive that car at 15 mph, will you use less gas than if you drive it at 100? They are trying to tell you how to save gas. Expecting full functions without battery use is unreasonable.

Hi, i´m new here.I have a question.

Are these results ok?

ip4s 16gb 9A406

usage:4 hours and 50 minutes

stand by:2 days and 4 hours

battery 1%

Thanks in Advance

It may be a bit low, but for practical purposes, do you really need 2 days between charges? As long as my phone manages moderate use without requiring a recharge before bedtime, I am happy.

True. But these are not listed on the battery info page. So we should assume that this is off.

And either way, if mail was on to fetch every 15 minutes, I'm pretty sure it takes maybe no more than 30 seconds to download mail and then the phone enters the sleep mode again. This occurs 4 times an hour, to be liberal, let's say this drains 10% of total battery life if it was on for 2 days. That's still a lot left for standby time!!!

I'm just saying that I have all these settings off and yet I still can't get 3 days with wifi and 3G on!!!

Ok. Now explain WHY you NEED 3 days? Are you backpacking across a continent? Most people have ample opportunity for plugging in to a charger each day. Why is it important to be able to wait longer between recharging?
