You are using all the time past tense and present tense! This leaves some wiggle room! For example, these sentences does not exclude that you will be paid by a third-party for your job which you are doing here in the forum! This is third time when you refuse to write that you will not be paid for posting here!

Since the iPhone 4S multitasks, you can have programs running in the background. If any of them poll the internet or hit the GPS they could be the culprit. To see what's running, doubleclick the button. A list of icons along the bottom will appear with little 'x's. Tap on the 'x' to close it. When I did it, every program on my iPhone was running. Every one of them. So I shut down everything that I wasn't using, but left the standard ones running (calendar, etc).

I don't know if it will help anyone but thought I'd share this

Any form of "sync" is like a two-edged sword. The reason for this has to do with "data sanity" amongst others. I can't speak for what exactly happened in your case but I've witnessed tons of funky stuff happening around the concept since I interested myself in the iPhone. For instance, I remember this guy having a terrible drain because 1 single video file was corrupted and the phone was trying to sync and failed and tried again etc. Another case is stuff like mail, in particular exchange or yahoo. There was a guy who had bad performance with Exchange whereas his colleague used the same exchange corporate server and had no issue... one could say one device was defective and the other was not - it's also possible some data was corrupted in one user's case. Finally, it happened quite a few times people dicsussed yahoo mail as yielding subpar results with the iPhone, or stuff like mobileme. iCloud of course was discussed quite a few times here as being the culprit. It's not only about the overhead generated by syncing back and forth all those things, whether using iCloud or whatever other conceptually similar system, it's also about handling of error conditions in the data in such cases where the sync can't complete and restarts. I also remember this extreme case where some unusual field was used in a mail contact and that created some problems - it can go that far. Whether it's sync, iCloud, mail, or even some apps, the whole idea of "integration" and sync of external content has to be revisited and hardened against malformed data and general error conditions. This also applies to the restore procedure I think. This should explain why restoring to new and such helped for some people.

Do you mean that after I paid 740 euros for an iPhone 4s with my own money for which I worked hard now I should also write a software patch for it? No way! As a customer, I expect Apple to fix all the issues of iPhone 4s immediately!

Complaining is not pointless. Apple fot fined in Italy 1.2 millione euros because people complained about its bad practices!

Apple obviously has its flaws, no company is without flaws.

This is a lousy excuse for selling iPhone 4s with a lot of issues and NOT fixing them in the same year when iPhone 4s was release!

And if you think Apple isn't going to fix any of these issues, be my guest and buy a freaking Android.

I will buy a Nokia phone for which the specifications match what a phone is really doing in real life situations!

Anyone know when IOS 5.0.2 is being released

Initially, was supposed to be in November

But no news as of late as to when it's being released

I know you were not talking to me but speaking of Android, I noticed the other day that the Android market has an app for Dwarf Fortress wallpapers!!! For me that tilts the scale!

Apple is coming out with iOs 5.1, which is likely to address all issues, and thats why it's taking so long.

If it doesn't, well Apple screwed up.

Maybe someone has already brought this up, but there appears to be a battery drain problem that can be caused by using the push option with Exchange. I purchased my phone in October, set up push with Exchange (we happen to be on Exchange 2003) right away, and never had any problems with battery life until a couple of days ago. I went from getting 2+ days on a charge, to the battery draining at a rate of about 15% per hour. The update to 5.0.1 was a non-issue for me (didn't seem to change battery life one way or the other). I updated to the 9A406 version yesterday, and that made no difference. I cycled power multiple times, and that did nothing, in terms of stopping background processes that I thought may have been an issue. When I turned the push option off on my Exchange account, the battery problem immediately went away (went back to my typical rate of around 2% per hour drain on standby). I checked with our Network Adm and confirmed that nothing had changed on that end with Exchange itself. When I turned the push option back on, the problem immediately came back. I talked to an Apple rep who suggested I delete my Exchange account, and then re-add, which I did. I turned push on, and have had no problems since (it's only been a couple of hours, but so far, so good).

There is no 5.0.2. There is a beta of 5.1 (third one now) that may or may not lead to a release. But there's no documentation from Apple, or reports from those testing it, mentioning any change to battery life.

If it is likely to address all issues, Apple are being very quiet about it - there's nothing in their documentation to suggest they even acknowledge a battery issues exists, let alone have fixed it somehow.

Actually not totally correct. See the post above with lots of info in li-ion battery. But to add to that, a cycle is not based on when its put on the charger . Its based on the percentage. So if you drain to 50% then charge it thats 1/2 of a cycle. Next day 50% and charge it thats another 1/2 so 1 cycle for the 2 times you put on charger. Likewise if you drain to 10% then charge then you are 90% into another cycle. So its all the same. Actually li-ion does better with more frequest charges. Not to say when it gets to 95% charge it but to some degree, Apple does state its good to use the battery not just let it sit.

Now Jameson!, I would not expect that from you. 🙂 That will most certainly help GSM folks on 3g fringe areas but I'm also pretty sure thats not the only cause of battery issues. I have read several posts reporting 5.1 b3 is really helping battery life (more so than b2). I think if users will sit tight a while longer a lot of those issues will be addressed when the new update is released. Of course it wont solve rogue apps or having every possible feature turned on for every single app, at least i doubt it will. But I suspect it will plug some battery holes and make things like locations and notificstions more efficient.

Umm they are working on an update called iOS 5.1. Its a patch to their latest iOS 5 that should address some bugs and issues they have uncovered since it was released.

Well I am pretty sure 5.0.2 was never mentioned by Apple as even existing much less as being released in November.That was just the rumor mills from that German website that NEVER gets it right. The only updates officially mentioned from Apple are 5.0.1 and 5.1.
