iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I have received over 4000 emails from this discussion, and am continuelly amazed at all the morons/whiners on here.

If it really is that bad, and you hate it so much, go buy a different phone.

So many of these posts are just "Ahhh!!!!!!!1!1!1!11 Apple is a crook! They just steal people's money!1!!1!1!!! Apple isn't do anything!"

1. If you're so smart, why don't you go make a software patch your self? It's not easy to do.

2. Whining on here isn't going to do anything, if you want any help provide us with your stats.

I've been running tests on my phone for the last 2 days,

The first day I ran EVERYTHING you could possibly turn on

Day 1 1/10/12.

Unplugged at midnight,

Woke up at 9 with a 4% drain.

WiFi: On,

Bluetooth: on

iCloud: on

All notifications: on

All location services: on

Push email: every 15 minutes

Apps on phone running overnight: none.

Start time: 9:00AM

End time: 4:00PM

With 8% battery left.

4 hours 38 minutes usage,

15 hours 50 minutes stand by.

That's with EVERYTHING on, I'm sure if I was to turn a lot of it off, I could squeeze a lot more battery out of it.

I did some experiments:

- turned off cellular data and Siri, just ran wifi. Over 1.5 hours the phone went from 100% to 97%.

- looked at traffic on a traffic monitor, only traffic was push server, Exchange and iCloud email, about 13kbps incoming and 7kbps upload in passive on average

- switched on Siri. In passive mode, it makes little difference. Making 4 queries over 4 minutes lost 4%

- switched on cellular data. Over 2.25 hours lost about 15%

Did not use it in voice mode at all during this time.

We did notice, with vibrate set to on in silent mode, it generates a lot more vibrates than it gets messages (ie it vibrates despite not receiving email; it's not clear exactly why it's vibrating. Obviously with vibrate on it loses a lot more power anyhow, so first thing is to switch this off).

This is 4S at 5.0.1 9A405. Carrier is O2.

This is a forum for complains regarding the iPhone 4S battery life problems!!! I guess that you are not including yourself among the morons/whiners!

So many of these posts are just "Ahhh!!!!!!!1!1!1!11 Apple is a crook!

Apple is not doing itself a service by selling iPhone 4S which has the static noise issues which is a hardware issue!

Apple isn't do anything!"

Apple is not doing anything. Already almost three months has passed and there still the battery life issue has not been fixed permanently! Does it look to you that Apple is doing something?

1. If you're so smart, why don't you go make a software patch your self? It's not easy to do.

The battery issue in iPhone 4S is not about how easy it can be fixed! Also one misses the point. The point is that I as a customer I paid Apple a lot of money (~700 euros) for a iPhone 4s and for that money Apple should fix my iPhone 4S. Should one fix iPhone 4S after paying a premium to Apple and forgive Apple for its mistakes? I do not think so!

Complaining can push a manufacturer to take the right action. Apple has been fined in Italy 1.2 million euros for bad practices and all started from buyers complaining about Apple!

It is completely obvious you have no concept of how large companies work, or the scale of this kind of operation, or the technical aspects of the question.

Do you mean that I should forgive and understand Apple for its mistakes because it is a large company!!!????

Are you joking? The point is that Apple sold me for a lot of my money an iPhone 4s with a lot of issues and which does not work even close the Apple's specifications!

I find these (i.e. large company, scale of operation, etc.) very lousy excuses for selling a product which does not meet its specifications!

And, yes, SOME people have unreasonable expecations. Anyone who takes seriously the 'up to xxx' in advertising probably also believes that someone in Nigeria is just out of the blue going to deposit 4.5 million in their bank account, and sends them the info....

You write that Apple as a company is at the same level like those scammers from Nigeria!!!

I fail to see how stats do help. Almost everyone ends up with 4-7 hours of mixed usage with 22 hours of standby or a variation thereof. Also it becomes very long and tedious when it's over spaced like yours. Finally, not qualifying your usage renders it meaningless and most likely the only way to squeeze more battery out of your setup would be to use it for music playback exclusively.

Good luck!

1. Do you REALLY think Apple TRIED to put the static issue in?

2. Apple is making iOS 5.1, is that not something? Let's see you release a software patch to fix it. No company is perfect, if you think Apple is so bad, go buy a Android for cheaper.

3. They are already working on a fix! So complaining any further is pointless.

Apple obviously has its flaws, no company is without flaws. As far as im concerened, Apple does a way better job at talking care of issues than other company's. And if you think Apple isn't going to fix any of these issues, be my guest and buy a freaking Android.

@1AppleADayNoWay

I do agree mine was over spaced, didn't mean for it to be like that.

If we aren't going to post stats, are we just going to sit here and complain?

Apple is already working on a fix, sitting here and whining more makes no sense at all.

At this point, I don't even see a point to post in here, everyone's getting mixed battery, and none of us can make a fix, so what's the point of complaining?

I can see that you are not able to read, and understand English. I am done with you.

As with social networking and all, beyond information lies "personal awareness" aka micro-history in the making - and forums are about that too - I embrace it fully lolll. Am I alone in the universe with my concerns about my battery life, are people as concerned or annoyed as I am, and what do they have to say about it, how do they cope with such handicaps. Complaining is only human - it's about catharsis. There need not be a point to everything and order is overrated. Plus there's always new people who could benefit from the community's wisdom. We don't know what Apple is working on, I mean if someone knows he should say so - we'll never know what really happens at Cupertino... maybe when Mr Cook retires or passes on we'll have a bio with some insight and a movie. When that happens I might grab the R5 and see the top brass was being briefed every morning with our chitter and that it made their day... or something like along those lines! 😝

I think that icloud may be the culprit. I noticed SEVERE (7-10%/hr) with light usage/standby when added my @me email address. I completely restored (not from backup) Said 'no' to everything (including icloud) during set up as new phone, except for Siri. I am now back to averaging 3 days on a fully charged battery (I shut off while sleeping). I have not re-added any Apps (in case one of them is buggy). But for now, im happy with phone, text, email, web...and a full battery!
