iPhone 4s Battery Life?

The purpose of compass calibrating is that you can set the compass for true north, or magnetic north. If you set it for 'true north', then it needs to know where you are in order to calibrate the displacement from true north, and the same goes for magnetic north. However, unless you travel a lot, and REALLY need to be able to trust your compass, then both can be turned off. That is location and calibration settings can be set off.

We still have an IPhone generation 1 phone that were never ever licensed for use in South Africa and required being hacked to work in SA. Short story it sucked as a phone compared to others legally in the market at the time but my wife uses it as an iPod to this day and it still retains a good charge to this day. Battery technology has come a long way since then so I think the concerns some may have of the life span of their 4s battery are slightly premature. I like others would like to see a proper fix to the battery drain of the 4s but I am in no way concerned that the battery will just die in a years time. No phone on the market is going to have a battery that retains its charge or gives as much life as it did a year prior.

On a separate note, does Apple ever test their own web sites on their mobile products? Replying to topics here using the iPhone is clumsy and not very mobile friendly, works ok on iPad though.

I believe the static noise is a hardware problem, and if so, Apple will replace/repair it. As for the software issues, haven't you followed the progress of the IOS5.1 development? In spite of NDAs, the information about is seems to be the world's worst kept secret. So keep on complaining, I am sure it will make you feel better, but I doubt it will get you better battery life before the next IOS update comes out, hopefully before then end of January...

I have never understood Apple's fascination with non-user-serviceable batteries. However, after watching the performance of my wife's iPhone 3GS, I concluded this wasn't a problem. There are other solutions for those few who can't manage to recharge every day, or even during a day. As on can see from you image, almost half the iPhone interior is consumed by the battery. One wonders just how some newer phones can manage 1800 to 3300mAhr batteries. Of course, some of them are rather large in the form factor.

What is REALLY needed is a quantum leap in battery technology.

Hey you may have your resolution. Perhaps Apple will exchange your iPhone 4s since it wont work for you no matter what for an iPhone 4. I mean even if you could get an even swap you still have what you want. Before the 4s the 4 was the same price as the current release. So then you are not out of anything and have a phone you believe in. There ya go.

Well you can actually take a digital camera and look through the viewfinder at your phone. You will see the red dot up near the ear piece. If you dont see it then you are good. If its still on after turning off raise to speak, reboot the phone (maybe twice is needed sometimes). If you are not seeing it and still not sure, make a call and watch it through your camera. A call make it come on to turn off display while near your face. So you will be able to tell. In a call should be on, end call should turn off. Siri raise to speak always on when display is on (not lock screen)

ive had my 4s iphone 3 days now, the battery life is crap, ive been ending up charging it 3-4 times a day, because a new phone you want to play with every feature, and download as much as possible, i viewed all these posts for suggestions, and now i have turned off everything that does not need to be switched on, so now all it is, is a phone that can txt, my battery life has improved dramatically, fully charged at 8am, has not been used all day, its now 3pm, so 7 hours later, just checked the battery life 96% if i had all the apps still turned on, id be lucky to have 10% ,, What you guys have to realise, this is the the smartest phone ever made in my opinion, theres no need to have all the applications running at once, as you cant possibly use them all at once, all day every day, just turn the ones you need on, when you need them, and you wont have any problems,

if im in my car driving, i use the car charger and gps, if im in the office, its plugged into my computer,

to me it makes no sense having the "smartest phone" ever made if I have to turn off all of its features in order for it to be usable. even if I keep turning them on and off to suit my needs, just doesn't make sense.

Has anyone figure out a way to solve this without having to resume my iphone to a dumbphone that does nothing but call and text?

I did a restore and I thought it got better but then now I have 58% with only two hours of moderate use and 2 on standby.
yesterday i had 15 hours on standy not using the phone.

The confidentiality part of the agreement is such a joke considering we're dealing with a beta patch. Even more so considering one can buy his way into developerhood with a 100 bucks. Apple should never deem any of their patches confidential material, as they would want people to spread the word as to the benefits of such updates and foster testing and harnessing of the user base's experience - the patch is going to end up on hosting sites and all over anyways. Such confidential designation should be restricted to sensitive material like APIs and internal stuff for product that are in the making etc - real dev stuff. I can't understand why the high level priests on the forums are so adamant about pulling out the NDA scarecrow when it applies to such trivial stuff as a patch. Blind followers they are. Apple claims that IOS is an efficient platform that manages multi-tasking better....

Doesn't seems to be the case if you'll have to close every apps to ensure it doesn't "eat up" your battery. At this point, IOS is no different from Android in this regard.

Hope that we see something good in 5.1 - it better be **** good since we've waited so long for it
