iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

2-3 days with the phone on and normal features active is about what you can expect, with minimal usage. Battery life will drop from there as usage increases.

As to the heat question, the phone should not get warm while on standby with the screen off, but while in use it will get warm. How warm is too warm? Hard to say, but if it feels too hot to touch, you have a problem.

Usage does not only accumulate while you are actively doing something with it. If you have email set up for push or fetch, when it retreives email it is accumulating usage. If you have iCloud active, or Bluetooth, or Wifi, the phone is polling the network regularly and accumulating usage. Same with location services, etc., etc...... Smartphones are designed to access the network for various tasks while the phone is sitting in standby mode.

The more of these features you disable, the longer your battery will last, BUT you are giving up many of the cool things that the phones are designed to do! It's your call for how much you want to handicap the phone. For most of us, charging every night while sleeping is perfectly acceptable and gives us the ability to leave most features on to take advantage of everythign the iPhone has to offer.
