iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

Hi! Unfortunately I cannot assist you in achieving such results - no one can, not even an ace lolll. On the other hand I can help you with sarcasm detection. You simply picked up on some running gag between me and Ace43 about battery usage. If you have a combination of standby and usage statistics that is around 30 hours, the device is pretty much on spec. There has been a debate about how much micromanagement of the device's features is required to somewhat extend that, and whether this is the "right" way to use the device, or if this involves even using the device at all and other first world problems... Good luck!

p.s. see https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3526981 for "pointers" etc.

You know, I forgot to write an update, but after a full factory reset (did not back-up from iCloud and completely redid everything manually), I have excellent battery life. I reinstalled all apps so I don't know what setting was causing the huge drain, but all is well. When I charge to 100% and pull it off before bed, I wake up to 99%. I can now even listen to stored music for a couple of hours without much battery drain at all.

Although, now I must fear that because this happened after updateing to iOS 5.1 that I will be going through this again in a few weeks when we get the iOS 6 update.

Never the less, when all else fails, seems a complete factory reset helps.

That would mean that you wouldn't be able to receive calls/

Exactly.

Kind of defeats the object of a phone I would have thought! 😉

which is exactly what 1AppleADayNoWay wants.

Raxm whom I responded, had asked how 1AppleADayNoWay gets such long life.

He puts it in airplane mode at night.

If you want to maximize battery life, simply turn it off whenever you are not actaully using it

hello,

please help me. My iphone 4S's battery is horrible. it drains in 10 hours. Everything is turned off jsut 3G enabled. I checked the usage statistics and the standy by time shows correct times, but the usage times show 6 hours, but I didn't use the phone for 6 hours, just surfing on 3G for 2 hours and listening music for 1 hour and checking mails, text some message etc. so the usage times should have been maximum 4 hours, but it says 6 hours, so what about the extra 2 hours? I just reinstall my phone, set up the factory settings, so no back up, so the phone is like new, but nothing happened. Anybody can help me?

Thanks

Something is running in the background.

To quit all apps and remove them from the Recently used tray...

Double tap Home.

Tap and hold any icon in the Recently used apps tray at bottom.

Tap the red minus sign on the corner of all apps.

You should generally do this a few times a week.

Get your facts straight Chris. I have never owned an iPhone and this has always been clear - this has never been a requirement for creating an Apple ID. Secondly, it is Ace43 who gets 6-7+ days of standby; initially he and I had a sort of argument because he wasn't disclosing he was using the phone for about 5 mins a day or very little in any case - he's indeed entirely free to not use the phone as much as he wants, yet I thought the average user was using the phone at least 1 hour+ a day so I thought it was misleading in that sense. I ended up posting screenshots of 25-50 and maybe 300+ days standby times - and being somewhat sarcastic, albeit in a friendly way, with Ace43 so when someone who wasn't privy to this asked about how I could get such whatever 12 days specs, I had to set things straight. Finally, I put up this thread which I gave the link to in my previous comment as it contains extracts of this thread here and general info, because the guy needed some clue as to what are the usage specs for 3G use etc. So that's it - I have no agenda and I've never given misleading or false information to someone who needed support. Good luck!

No idea what this means.

As far as you not owning an iPhone, I must have been confused because you wrote, "Yeah that's right. Your stats are so wrong. Take me for instance. As a senior VP, I get 5 weeks off in the summer. Guess I'll have to bring the charger too if I go to Aruba."

Why whould you need to bring a charger for your iPhone if you don't have one?

I didn't see the sarcasm in it.

No worries here though.

I don't understand that you couldn't see the sarcasm in someome whining because he's going to need the charger because his phone won't last for 5 weeks on a single charge. The question is not whether this person is me or why I would need a charger without the phone. Unless you're being sarcastic yourself lolll. You erred in your comment about me. That was my point...

Hi, i thought i'd try to get this back on track. Iv had similar problems with my 4S since i got it in november and iv tried everything to try to fix it. First off i know my problem isnt as bad as many other people on here but i found after charging it to 100% and leaving it other night it would drop 30% in 8hrs. So apple were happy to replace it and called it a hardware fault. I tested the new phone after restoring from icloud back up and it was fine all the settings im used to having on and it dropped 1% over 8hrs sleep. So i forgot about it untill a few weeks ago i tested it again to find it dropped 20% over night. So i had it replaced and this time set up as new and havnt yet activated icloud and i havnt no apps installed. Iv been testing it my self to try to isolate the problem. Each night i charged the phone to 100% and tried a different setting to see the standby drain.

Setting Drain Total standby possible(hrs)

____________________________________________________________________

No settings active <1% >800hrs

Bluetooth only <3% 266hrs

Wifi only (ask to join on and off) >12% <66Hrs

Wifi only (no network connected). <1% >800hrs

Siri only <1% >800Hrs

Data (3G) only <1% >800Hrs

Location services (all services on) <1% >800Hrs

Wifi on plus all options >15% <53Hrs

3g data on plus all options <1% >800Hrs

Wifi & all options(no blue tooth) >14% <57Hrs

(Dnt take the possible standby too strictly i havnt tested it for 800hrs but i just worked it out from 8hrs usage.)

The last test here, i did just last night and this time i checked the usage stats, After 10 hrs off charge and 2 hrs since i woke up my usage is 10hrs standby and 5hrs usage. It should show 2hrs usage max. As you can see from the tests wifi is a big issue and i dont understand why

So thats it. If any1 wants me to try a setting or clarify any of the settings iv used then just ask ill keep testing untill i get IOS6 and then im going to do it all over again!
