Battery drain with iOS 5 on iPhone 4

Is anyone else seeing an issue with terrible battery drain after installing iOS 5 on iphone 4? I've read through a plethora of "possible fixes" on the net, but nothing seems to work. Full charge was completed last night at 0100 and now it's at 25%! I could easily go the whole day with "normal" usage prior to the iOS upgrade. Thoughts?

I've noticed the same thing >> my battery life is dismal since switiching to OS 5. Before, I would go 2 days before a charge, now I'm lucky if I get thru the day without charging.

I can deal with that, although very annoying, but what really makes me scratch my head is the news that Apple won't have a fix for it for a few weeks.

I just got my phone replaced due to installing IOS5. My iPhone 4 started to drain very quickly, Constantly crash, Get very hot on the back and a intermittent fault with home button. My iPhone used to get charged once every 2 days but since IOS5 it needs charging every night sometimes even twice a day depending on usage, The battery problem persists with my replacement iPhone too. Also i have noticed loads of low memory and crash reports in the iPhone's diagnostic menu. Apple should release 5.0.1 in the next couple of days not wait for another couple of weeks. This type of battery drainage will do the battery no good and if your iPhone heats up like mine does after installing IOS5 it will be doing slow damage to the internals of the iPhone in which the customer (OURSELVES) would have to foot the repair bill if out of warranty around £150GB.

Lets hope this gets sorted as soon as possible i love apple products and there services but they are starting to lack already without Steve. (R.I.P)

I have the same problem since upgrading to ios 5 my battery life is less than a day, previously my iPhone 4 would run for several days between charges unless I used the browser extensively. Nothing else changed on my iphone which implies the problem is ios 5 (APPLE PLEASE FIX THIS ASAP). This is the first time Apple has let me down, love my iPhone and even use it to wake me up in the morning. Yesterday I charged the iPhone around noon, this morning the iPhone battery was dead and no alarm, not so happy with the iPhone today.

Same here... 1 hour 18 minutes - 75% battery. My 4 was never this bad. My wife now has my 4, and it still works well even though it was recently upgrade to 5.

I think the issue is something on the 4S, not ios 5.0.1.

I have heard that some people have exchanged their phones at the apple store and they then got better life out of their battery. This may be what I will be doing unless someone or apple can solve this problem for me soon... the phone is practically unusable without plugging it in at work.

I have already tried all the tips found online such as location services, screen, total drain, less push notifications, etc. Non of them helped.

Please let me know if you have found a solution to this issue,

I don't know if this helps because so many people have reported "fixes" that did not work for my Iphone 4 (32 GB). However, when AppleCare had me restore my phone as a NEW phone (you lose your info) it seems to have fixed my draining issues. I performed the restore about 10 days ago and all seems well. I synched my Apps and most of my songs over the last 5 days and things still are good.

Battery drain was bad on iOS 5 but after upgrading to iOS 5.0.1 my iPhone 4 is draining the battery FASTER than iOS 5.0. I now get less than 1/2 a day battery life so phone is as good as useless unless plugged in to a charge point in office or at home. Also had lot's of drama with Active Sync links to Microsoft Exchange Server settings which took days to resolve and Apple support were of no assistance - said the issue was a Microsoft issue then, after I eliminated this as the cause, they told me it was a Vodafone issue. Vodafone tech support were good and resolved the problem which was an Apple iPhone 4 setting issue ll along.

I have done a complete restore from factory settings and this made no difference to high battery drain issue - if anything it seems worse after the re-build.

I should have bought an Andriod or even a Windows 7 phone!!

I'm in the same situation as you here. My iPhone 4S's battery dies incredibly fast especially after the 5.0.1 while my old iPhone 4 (now my GF's phone) and my first generation iPad, their battery life improved significantly with the update. So I guess is something with the 4S.

One more thing, in 5.0 I sort of fixed the battery issue reinstalling my exchange email account. I did this too after the update to 5.0.1, but opposed to the first time with no effect at all to the battery life. The location settings related to time zone, and cell tower location are deactivated, I saw these can cause battery drain too but apparently not in my case...

I would love to have someone from apple tell me what else to try. To let me know how did they fix my fix, so now my battery lasts only 7 ours with 6 on stand-by and 0 apps running in the background.

PS. If someone with both iPhone 4 and 4S read this, please tell me how do the signal bars from your carrier behave. On the table, next to each other, on the 4 I see four bars and the 4S has only two. Can this reception difference be the the battery killer? Is this a case to have my 4S replaced?

Thank you.

I did the same and it helped a little, but as I told the Genius Bar guy yesterday, I'm still dropping battery way too fast.

Before iOS 5 I lost about 5-8% overnight (7-8 hours). I have pretty much everything they suggested to save power set and after iOS 5 I dropped around 40% overnight. Flushing the phone and doing a complete reset helped, but I'm still dropping power way too fast at 20-25% overnight. They ran the diags on my phone and said it was fine and checked the battery as well.

It has to be someting on the phone though, neither my iPod Touch v3 or the wife's v4 are dropping off this fast.
