Thanks

Hello everyone, I come to give you some news about my case. Just to remember I have problems with my iPhone since day 1 and exchanged it 3 times at an apple store. After that I called support and told them I was extremely unhappy and that they had to find me a definitive solution. So they proposed to change my iPhone for a new one in the sealed white box this time. I agreed. I received it few days ago. I still have the static noise but it only happens on about 10% of my calls and it doesn't stay long. So for the moment I will keep it as its the best iPhone I had on 5. Details of my iPhone: 4s, 16 gb, black, production week 50, factory DN

Same here in France. I just received my 5th exchanged iPhone 4S from Applecare. All the previous ones exhibit loud static and other annoying issues (yellow screen, misaligned home button, top led backlight bleeding ...).

So, this one is flawless ! Perfect screen with vibrant colors, pure white and no backlight bleeding. Icing on the cake, static is almost gone. It's still there but it happens on 10% of calls and is very faint, almost inaudible. It isn't as disturbing as it was and call quality is even better than my former iPhone 4.

Like the previous poster, it's by far the best iPhone 4S i had on 5. It's also from production week 50 but factory is C38.

Same here. In my original iPhone 4S the static noise was clearly audible. A serious defect, which we simply do not have to accept. So I handed the phone over to my carrier - who in The Netherlands has to handle the initial intake - who then send it to Apple. After three weeks I received a new/refurbished iPhone (I don't know how to tell the difference, since it contained only the phone itself and didn't came in the standard retail packaging).

My replacement unit has the static ever so slightly and only in a limited number of calls - maybe 5 to 10% of the calls. It's much, much better compared to my first one, and when the static occurs it's nowhere near as intruding. Call quality is very good now.

I'm confident that Apple is aware of the problem but won't speak out since they don't want to attract attention. I do, however, believe they are committed to handling to problem. So my advise is to bring back any defective unit, and at some point you will receive a proper one.

Original 4S: production week 42

Replacement 4S: week 49

Having the same problem on phone calls. Had no idea it was an issue with the internet too. Tried what you said and of course, loaded Safari on 3G and the static is persistent while it loads, but stops when it's not. Also does not occur when on wifi. Seriously fucki*ng ridiculous.

*On my 3rd iPhone 4S. 2 brand new and one refurbished model. All with static in the ear piece. Apple Genius said to call AT&T and have them send me a new SIM and reprovision my network. Nothing doing. Guess I'll have to wait for Apple/5.1. Complete bullsh*t.

That's exactly the sound.

Just got back from Apple Store here in Hamburg Germany and got myself a replacement. Guess what, it's not gone. I'm on my 5th device. This is getting rediculous....

At least the "Genius-Guy" asked if I would Apple to analyse my phone. I agrreed, but I don't think this will change anything. Apple is just not admitting there is a problem with this phone...very dissapointing.

Hi everyone,

I have the same problem with my Iphone 4S Black 16 GB in Turkey. I tried all other Iphone 4S's around my ( 5 of them) and they all have the same issue but in different sound levels. The users of these iphones didn't even noticed it.

I hope Apple will fix this in near future. APPLE FIX THIS!!!!!

Motivated for the comment, that the static noise was better in the newer iphones, I bought a new one in Hamburg (Production week 51). It's true, the static is still there but I can't barely hear it in a call phone. If I wasn't aware of the problem, I would not notice.

Anyway, a day after that I noticed, that my new expensive iPhone makes a buzzing noise when vibrates...not allways but sometime and quite annoying. I bought it to the store a couple of days later for a replacement. The "genius/specialist/whatever" noticed the problem and brought me quickly a replacement. Saddly for Apple, the replacement had problems to read my sim card, so he make another replacement with the same sim card problem. Finally I decided to return it I get my money back, that was ridiculous.

I remember the day I entered the store and the first seller I met told me: "Apple products don't have ever a hardware problem". Are they so stupid to believe that? Just doing their job I guess...

I'm done with the iPhone 4s, which is a pitty, because I like it.

Exactely the same ! If you look at the page 22 or 23, I've asked a refund for my 4S 64Go. After some motivated comment, I bought one (32Go) here in switzerland and seen he was build on week 51 too. No static sound or very less, it depend on which location I am but much better. I think that Apple solved it silently... I will still test it because I'm affraid that the static sound comes worse with the time... But for me it's the last chance...

But I didn't have any Sim Card problems...

Really really tired of this unacceptable problem.

Just made a phone call, tried with wifi on and wifi off, but the static is always there.

Unfortunately I can't ask for a refund (I have the 4S since november): what can I do?

Go to Apple Store and ask for a refurbished one? In that case, who tells me that the production week is not the same as mine? I read somewhere that refurbished one are manufactured with new exterior parts, but keeping the same motherboard....

I made another test: opened App Store app (to make the phone download some data) and put my ear near the display: bzz bzzz bzzz bzzz bzzzzz bzzzzz

Then I tried again after 1 minute... silence....

I wish someone had access to media like CNN and was able to have them report on the story much like it the battery issues and antenna issues were covered previously. Once a big media outlet makes the headline with this story apple will be cornered and will have to speak up about this problem. This story needs to be reported. Anyone with connections in media please take actions.

Unfortunately this is an hardware issue, some component is making noise when the device dowloads or uploads data, via 3g or via wifi.

I think Apple cannot solve it with a bumper or software update...

IMHO, the only patch to iOS 5 that could solve the problem, should be to disable 3g/wifi data when the device is making a phone call
