ipad won't restore, unknown error (1)

I tried to update my ipad yesterday (10/14/2011). I had previsouly updated my iphone the day before with no problems.

It said it would take an hour, so I left the computer and when I came back the ipad had a black screen with the itunes logo in the middle with a usb icon. I looked in itunes and this is what it said:

"The ipad could not be restored. An unknown error has occured (1)."

I clicked on the more information tab and was taken to a website with some troubleshooting. I did what they suggested and still no luck?

Can anyone help me? Can I just reset everything? The ipad won't go past the error screen...Its driving me nuts?!?!!?

All I was trying to do was update, and now I have this huge mess.

Thanks for any help!

Guys I have working Fix for this:

So first uninstall itunes

Next, create a new account with Administrator access

SIGN OFF the original account (Make sure you are logged off or this will not work)

Sign into the new account

Download and install itunes

Put you iDevice into DFU

Restore and update your device

Once completed, delete the new account and reinstall iTunes on your original Account

If yu need to ever restore the same device that you had trouble with, follow these steps or it will fail again.

Hi,

I've had the same problem with my iPhone and iPad. This helped me! (i found it on a supportpage wich i can't remember because i tagged it in my iPad, wich is currently being restored)

1. You don't need to reboot Windows.

2. Leave your iPhone connected to your PC then:

3. Quit iTunes

4.1 In task manager click "show processes from all users", sort by description and kill everything "Apple".

4.2 Also kill the process with the image name AppleMobileDeviceHelper.exe

5. (xp) Click Start > Run > in the Open text box copy & paste the following - with the quotes - "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\AppleMobileDeviceHelper.exe" and press OK.

6. (win7) start> accessories > run > in the Open text box copy & paste the following - with the quotes - "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\AppleMobileDeviceHelper.exe" and press OK.

7. Open iTunes

Good luck!

Exactly the same thing happened to me today in an Apple Store in Munich... they offered me a 30% discount + a 81€ discount... I refused this offer as I didn't do anything wrong: Apple suggests an update, you do it... and my perfect working iPad 2 is now a chopping board. It's like if I take the car to the mechanic cause he suggests to check the oil level, and I get it back not working...! I'm super unhappy... I'll try to call the Apple Care and see what they say, as it wasn't my fault.
