Sounds all too familiar. I hope this is a fix.
Here's my situation...
- Two new iPhone 4S (received replacement)
- Automatically updated to latest version of iOS 5.01
- I use a few hotmail accounts
- I used the pre configured Hotmail setup
Issues
- emails take ages to load when I try open one up
- any size attachment sometimes timesout before downloading or loading up
- forwarding attachments is impossible, it goes to a blank email with the word Loading... but never loads
- sometimes crashes (ie. automatically jumps to home screen) when typing out a reply and I lose all my work
- sometimes crashes when I'm reading an email
Things I've Tried (and didn't work)
- Quitting the application (pressing on icon until it vibrates and hitting x)
- Deleting and reinstalling email accounts
- DFU reinstall and factory reset (as instructed by Apple technician)
- Getting a new handset
Likely problem: if everything I'm reading is correct, the pre-configured Hotmail is screwed - although the Apple techies I saw both said the pre-configured Hotmail setup was perfect and not causing the problems (after I'd suggested adding Hotmail manually). The Apple techie also said they'd never come across this problem before.
Semi good fix (reduces the refresh and forwarding problems)
- Add Hotmail account via "Other" during the setup (ie. not using the pre-configured Hotmail setup)
- See instructions here ... http://techstatic.wordpress.com/2009/02/15/want-hotmail-on-your-iphone-pop3-acce ss-is-enabled/
Really good fix (makes the refresh and attachment forwarding instant!!)
- Add Hotmail account via "Microsoft Exchange" during the setup
- See instructions here ... http://www.sirslur.com/2010/09/01/hotmail-has-imap-and-works-on-iphone/
I'm not sure if this has fixed the crashing yet, as that was intermittent. If it doesn't fix the crashes I'll repost.
I'm a little disappointed with this experience. I switched from Android to iPhone because I didnt want to troubleshoot my phone anymore. I'm not sure why Apple is so quiet on this, but I would appreciate an acknowledgement of the problem and humility on their part.
Good luck folks
