iPhone 4s, echo when using apple headset during a call

I'm having an issue with my 32 gb iPhone 4s with Rogers. When using the Apple hands free headset with the phone during a call, I get an echo problem. It does not occur immediately. It can very from 30 seconds into a call and as far up to 9 mins in before it begins the annoying echo. If I unplug the headset it goes away but will return when I plug the headset back in. I have tried 3 brand new iphone 4s headsets with the same problems. So far I have tried rebooting, and also restored phone back to factory original settings as a new phone and still no resolution. I have been told by the other person on the line a screech sound is made then the echo begins.

Problem happens with our without the use of the headset.

Me and wife just exchange our iphone 4s yesterday to a different 4s. she experience the same problem today with her phone. definitely not a hardware issue. Apple should atleast acknowledge the issue. and reassure all the 4s user that fix is coming. maybe majority of 4s owners will not go back to the store and return and say that the phone is deffective.

Its just gonna get more expensive for apple, but i just want a reliable working phone.

I'm experiencing the same situation described by others in this thread. I suspect it's a problem with iOS5 and the noise-cancelling feature in the Phone app.

In the cases I've heard it seems like the ambient noise becomes the primary sound in the audio mix. To the point that the caller audio becomes almost inaudible.

If you stay on the call then some sort of feedback happens and the caller starts to hear "echos."

Having written audio processng software, this sounds like it's just a bug in the noise-cancelling software that is using the wrong source signal or something similar.

I have 2, 64 gb 4s iphones, we share an apple id and thus share music and most apps, we drive around the same community and both use apple earbud/wired head sets.

One phone has no problems. Just doesn't make sense to me

The other phone was replaced by applecare via phone consult which has the same problem. I am going to the applestore to have them run diagnostics.

I have done everything everyone else has, restore from backup, as a new phone, on and off speaker does work but what a serious problem!!!!

everyone, remember to report problem to apple!

went to apple store this afteronn,

they will give me another new phone (the 3rd). NOt sure why I want one but since the other phone in our plan/household doesn't have the problem I think maybe it will solve it.

I asked the "genius" if he has heard of the problem and he said no.

he also said that he is asked a few questions on his computer about known issues and this did NOT come up.

Most discouraging.

I noticed the static thread and I think that might be the same problem, only what the person with the problematic phone hears...when the other person hears the echo....this is just a GUESS!

Still waiting for someone to post a solution to the problem

Why is everyone returning their phones when this seems to be more of a iOS problem? Honestly I do not think this is a hardware issue and the only way to fix this is to contact Apple and describe the issue as detailed as possible and they'll probably release a fix for it in an upcoming iOS version.

So instead of going to the store and returning your phones, contact Apple support and report the issue.

Same thing with me, started to get the echo after about 5 minutes into the call with the headset I took off the headset and the echo was still present, I had to end the call it was really bad. I then made a new call without the headset and I had the problem. So now I have an echo on just about every call I make and poor battery performance. GREAT!!
