iTunes cannot sync... apps installed on the iPhone could not be determined.

I am trying to activate an original iPhone. I keep running into issues (partially because the rest of the world is activating 4Gs phones). I would appreciate any help that is available.

I am working on a MacBook running OSX 10.5.8. My iTunes has been updated- 10.5.

I am currently getting a message- iTunes cannot sync apps to the iPhone “MRL iphone” because the apps installed on the iPhone could not be determined. The iphone screen shows the usb cord/plug pointing to the itunes logo whether attached to a computer or not. And says slide for emergency use.

  • -I have restored to factory settings several times both from a previous backup and set up as new phone.
  • -I have even attempted to use another Mac and a family member's windows machine with similar results on all.
  • -I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes
  • -I have put the phone into the recovery mode and restored from there
  • -I have restarted both the computer and phone numerous times
  • -I have replace the SIM card with a new card from the provider
  • -I have received an email saying the phone was activated (and have called to verify with the service provider)

I'm sure there are other things I have tried as well that I am forgetting, as I have been at this now for about 3days. There have been times when I got nothing but a breif "accessing iTunes store" and then a white screen with the grey word iPhone in the middle. At least now I have the normal summary screen when clicking on the device. Unfortunately I am still getting an error "iTunes cannot sync apps to the iPhone “MRL iphone” because the apps installed on the iPhone could not be determined." I am not attempting to sync apps, just sync the phone to get a current/clean backup. I will want to sync the apps, just haven't been able to get that far.

By the way, prior to starting this process the iphone worked perfectly- no issues. This just seems to have become an issue when I attempted to restore to factory settings for a clean start with the new line.

This is the furthest I have been able to get in the process. I really need to get this up and running soon as I will need the phone for the work week.

Please help!

what i did was. delete all my media and data everything on my iphone at the iphone setting. and set up a new phone. yes everything will be deleted but you can sync it from itunes again. This is the only way that made me able to sync to my itunes. i guess we need to try to install , update , and download apps using your mac or pc itunes would be better.

Yep, me too. That was the only thing that I could do. I had to reset my iPad and download 700Mb+ of software reset. It also meant downloading 25Gb of data in the form of books and other stuff that I had to download, but there was no other way I could sync my iPad with iTunes. I wrote 6 pages of notes on this process as I went along, and it took me about a day to get my iPad back up to scratch, but in the end I figured - OK, I don't like iTunes 11, but I can learn to live with it, especially as I now know that it is a lot of hard work, with nothing achieved, if I revert to a previous version of iTunes and try and sync my iPad to iTunes - which will not work.

I was having this same problem as well as my videos unable to open on my iPad using home sharing.

But i did get it to work.

I did a little bit of troubleshooting by double checking that I had not signed In to any service using an ileagle character

for username and password...I recently changed my password....did not work.

I deauthourized all computers, then reauthourized .. Still did not work.

Tried syncing / deleting some older apps..did not work.

What did work was closing iTunes on my Mac, connecting iPad to Mac , reopened iTunes, then Boom all problems solved.

Am not sure if any of the previous steps I performed contributed to my success resolving the problem, but I thought someone else reading this forum may just find some help with what seems a simple solution (in the end).

Good luck all

Would be nice to know the cause of the problem. However , it seems that som apps (the ones that won't install with the prompt "

iTunes cannot sync... apps installed on the iPhone could not be determined..or FOUND.

" that iTunes has lost the track or location of the app in question. If you open iTunes (11.2) and on the Library tab, click the small down arrow to get a list of you APPS. Locate the app that won't install and click "cmd + I" to get the info of the app and weher it's supposed to be located. Manually locate this app "iTunes /iTunes Media/Mobile Applicatons". The path may look diffrent depending on where you have put your iTunes library) Once yuo found the app that was impossible to install, doubble click it and it will be re-located. Alternatively , when in iTunes and clicking "Cmd-I" on the app (as in the image below) , click OK to accept the fileUser uploaded file

Thank you so much This is the solution that worked for me. I had searched the internet high and low for a solution to this to no avail. I tried just about everything everyone else was suggesting with no luck. When I read your post it made perfect sense to me that this is what was causing my problem. Why would changing a cable affect how apps are determined? Yet I figured, can't hurt. But anyway, I digress. The problem for me and why your solution worked was that one of my apps was a different version on my phone than what was in iTunes. I had updated everything on the phone and in iTunes but it stll wasn't working. To resolve, I moved all the mobile applications to a temporary location so that the Mobile Applications folder was empty (on a Windows XP machine), connected my iPhone 5, and selected 'Transfer Purchases'. I had tried this previously to no avail but after ensuring the Mobile Applications directory was empty, I was able to transfer the purchases. In my case, only ONE app transferred and when I next checked the folder, there was only one file there (a photoshop express app). Checking the files that I moved, I noticed that the file names were different (2.7 vs. 2.7.1) so the reason I was getting the error was due to this discrepancy. I simply moved the apps back to the Mobile Applications directory (and left both versions of PS Express in the directory), reconnected to iTunes and my phone synced perfectly! You stated you hoped your post helped one person. Mission accomplished! And thanks again for taking the time to help.
