Siri location reminders problem

So I want to be able to talk to Siri as say: 'remind me when I leave the gym go do this this and this.'

I figured out that to add locations, you need to add it into your contact. I've done that with custom labels, naming them gym, school etc. When I ask where is my gym, it does not know and brings up my contact info with my gym address there. I ask to set reminders for when I get to gym, doesn't know where my gym is, and shows my contact card. Any ideas?

The only labels that work are 'home' and 'work' the rest don't work.

I had similar difficulties when I was trying to make location based reminder. I had to add a contact for the location and make sure the name was in the 'First Name' field. If it was in the 'Company' field I couldn't get it Siri to recognize the location name I was saying.

Also, not sure *why* I'm required to add a contact for each location I want to create a reminder for. Why doesn't Siri just utilize Maps?

Note: after adding a location on your contact card, it takes a few minutes for that info to get to the cloud, or whatever. My new locations on my contact card aren't recognized by Siri right away.

I suppose Siri doesn't utilize maps because if you use maps for "grocery store" you get 7-elevens, liquor stores etc. maps isn't that accurate. I don't want to be reminded to buy eggs at 7-eleven

I agree it takes awhile, I noticed that as well. But even after waiting, I (I say I), couldn't get Siri to work for the Company field. Thanks for noting! 😀

Yes, but if Siri offered me the list of grocery stores to select from (In the same way it presents list if it can't pick an item with certainty) I'd be happy with that rather than having to make contacts manually (by using maps ironicallly) for all the places I most want to have location based reminders for. Like "When I arrive at Costco (Sams Club, BJs) remind me to pickup beef jerky".

Ok, just back from my most disappointing visit to the apple store, then an hour and a half with apple care. you can't turn on the location services until you tell siri about your reminder, then you have to go in and edit the reminder by hand (defeating the purpose, I know). Then after that it will actually know what you mean. Make sure you manually check the checkbox on the reminder as well. I don't know if this needs to be done everytime, but it is a pain in the ***. Not what they advertised it to be for sure.

Same issue. I have goten "trader Joes" to work ONCE . Fry's Electroics gives it fits. If i ask where is the closest fry's electroics it types out Fries then changes it to Fry's and give me info. if i try to do reminder it ALWAYS types out Fires Electronis . I eve tried putting in my contact list that way it will not work. I also got Electroics store to work once (after i changed frys to that in my adress book) but it worked only once then i stoped.
